so i got this crazy idea before wen i was in the garage to take my only cast iron 1bbl intake and do some cuttin and welding and make it in to a double duece setup. cool huh? anyway i was wondering how many CFMs a carter BBD is (x2 of course) and if itll be too much on a stock cam. i no you can run a holley 390cfm on a stock cam (right?)

That will take an awful lot of work - go for it if your feeling adventerous, but remember offenhauser offers a 2x1bbl intake that would take minimal work to convert to 2x2bbl compared to your project. I think last time I looked it was a bit above 200 - try www.offyparts.com and I think www.summitracing.com carries them as well.

the fabbing being a lot of work covered by pierre, let me add that if you go into the trouble, it would be an unwise thing to do to use 2 simultaneous 2 barrels... it would be too much carburetion. If you use twin staged 2 barrels it would be like mimicing a small 4 barrels, if those twin 2 barrels are separated by even firing banks, you can greatly increase power and also carburetion CFM, due to cross pulse elimination on the intake. 2 webber 32/36 would be great for this application (twin 2 bbl on the 2x1 offy manifold) and it's pretty much straightforward. the twin 1 barrels manifold has a "please machine me" carb mounting flange, ready to install almost anything with the size of bbd's flange or anywhere near.

Shew, you guys are talking enough money from buying a intake & two webers that you could make a good run at EFI for that price.

I'd figure about $3000 for EFI (using new stuff)

i was definately gonna go with the 2 stage setup.

I see that Summitt offers the Offy 2 single manifold for $275 plus shipping and Pleathean (Offy distributor) is now $330 plus shipping should anyone be considering this option for either the stock 1 barrels or to modify the manifold for the Webbers

you mean put one carb to each bank of three cylinders. wouldnt it only run on the first three cylinders until the linkage opened the other carb and essentally the other three cylinders??

Naw, the linkage would open up the carbs in parallel. Now wether you had mechanical or vaccum seocndaries on the carbs themselves is different story...

Yikes! price of those manifolds went up... still even for that price its not bad compared to all the work required to alter a 1bbl manifold manually. Heck it may be easier to chop off the end of the runners to use as a flange and make a sheetmetal intake.

If your going as far as buying the manifold you'll probably kick yourself later for not doing dual 2bbl's instead of dual 1bbl's.... but if you have spare 1bbl's sitting around and don't mind the labor it wouldn't be a bad starting point.

Complete EFI can be had for less then 1500 using megasquirt. Only thing that may need to be used is your manifold that needs to be sent out for the machinework.

when you "split" the engine in 123 456 cyl banks, the carb(s) see their pulsing half the time than one single carb. Due to this, you can increase the flow and fuel and you improve fuel distribution because runners configuration are more even. the only problem that the dual carb setup has is that the rearmost carburetor runs hotter than the front one wich is straight in front of the fan... so you need to jet it a tad richer than the front one. If you modify the twin 1 barrels mani to use 2 staged webbers or solex, the primaries will open simultaneoulsy, and the secondaries too. I'd go with a mech secondaries carbs (not vacuum operated secondaries, but that's my idea) The idea is to get them linkages working as syncronized as possible.

About the EFI idea, don't fool yourself man, EFI is not onlyway more expensive, it requires tons of work and the results are not always happy. I wouldn't go with EFI if running EFI were thye only option avalible! I think of it as a pain in the ass... but I think that's a strong polarizing sobject... I repeat, I wouldn't touch the efi subject with a 10 ft pole. staged carbs are going all the time on ebay... Anyway, I don't know how you guys pay such ridiculous prices as you pay for redline stuff... those carbs down here cost like a quarter of what redline charges you up there... even with shipping prices and customs taxes you can get 2 staged 32-36 webber carbs from argentina for about US$ 400 and I mean NEW in the box units. About the manifolds, I wouldn't know about the offy because those twin 1 barrel manifolds where OEM equipment in some GT cars down here from 65 to 68. I have one standard manifold and one modified to take 2 webbers 32-36.

It works the other way round with 4 barrels: they intended to charge me US$ 300 for a crappy no good not even for core holley 4 barrels, I just got 2 4160 manual chokes at ebag for less tan 80 bux the 2 of them... and Charlie S sold me an offy 4 barrel manifold... (I like to experiment with diffrent carburetions... hehehe)
