I don't know what it is but once you see a slant with a Offy intake and dual exhaust you just have to have one. So let the adventure begin. I have a 74 duster that I intend to set up for a street/bracket car and this will be my first car engine I've ever built.I raced karts for 8 years and did all my own building but I guess thats comparing apples to oranges. Let me tell you my intentions engine wise and I would appreciate any sugestions. I plan on leaving it standard bore unless it needs bored ,decked, aftermarket cam.
I would like to have the head worked over shaved, ported , Big valves hardened seats. Offy intake and either a 390 holley or 500 edelbrock and self made duals ( I'm a machinist and a welder ) and thats just tthe beging.

Question ?

1. should I be looking for a certain year engine to begin my build ? I read the
mopar 6 cylinder book over and over and it seems like there are many trade offs forged crank vs cast, Thin wall blocks during different years Etc.

2. Is the offy intake in the jc whitney catalog the one most pepole are using for performance applications.

3.Are ther any engine machinist near NW Pennsylvania that are fimilar with high performance slants

My duster has a slant in it but I just as soon leave it alone and keep it in the car untill I,m ready to make the switch. This will be my first engine swap and I don't want to hook up anything wrong I intend on spending the whole winter building this engine.

By the way this is my first forum post ever anywhere. but I've been reading this sight for a couple of years and think it's great Thanks

1. http://www.slantsix.org/articles/dutra- ... blocks.htm

2. The Offy is popular, as is Clifford. A search on this site should give you some comparisons between the two.

Get yourself a spare engine to build and focus most of your attention on the head.
Overall, you have a good plan so ask the detail questions as you get into the build.

RaceKrafters in Lancaster, PA has done many performance, and full blown slant 6 race cylinder heads. Look to spend anywhere from $600 to $2,000 on the machine work, not including the oversize valves  Give them a call (717) 399- 8780. Machine work is top notch.
