Referring to the article linked above, does the F-body slant 6 radiator cool better than the stock 63 type?
Will an Aspen radiator mount as easily in a 63 Valiant as it will in a 66 Dart, or does the 63 pose more problems?

I have a 63 radiator with a couple small leaks in the top tank (not on the seam like last year).
I am trying to decide whether to have this one rebuilt or get an F-body radiator from pickapart and have it rebuilt.

Would a new radiator (F-body type, imported) be a better investment?

My '64 has a plain two-row '76 Aspen radiator and hoses. (225, 904) I think the '63 and '64 have very similar engine compartments - correct me if I'm wrong on that.
The temperature gauge is not calibrated, but I did noticed that the needle sits a little further to the right (when thoroughly warmed) than it did with the old radiator.
I put 450 highway miles on it Saturday, in temperatures up to 85F, over 2000 ft net elevation changes each way, up and down the Caprock, with no problems. The temperature rose a bit at 75 MPH.
I had gone through two round-topped radiators with cracked tanks before trying the F-body radiator.
The lever-type radiator cap had to go - hood clearance issues. Also, the overflow tube pointed to the passenger side, away from where my catch can is (in front of the battery). Mounting was basically measuring, marking, and drilling a couple of holes.
I would like a bit more radiator when I put the AC back in, but this one works just fine as is.

I know the 64 firewall is different...
but I don't know if the radiator mount/opening is different.
The one I have now (old-type) is a three row.
Did any of the Aspen/Volares have 3-row?

A V8 radiator maybe?

Is your 76 radiator used, rebuilt or new?

This radiator is new, parts store item. I ordered it for a '76 Aspen, 225, with automatic transmission and AC. About $150.
A three row radiator would be better, as would a wider one. Aluminum is a good option, too.
Check the outlets on the V8 radiators, to make sure they're in the right place.

I have to go to a pickapart and measure the /6 and V8 Aspen radiators.

The new 76-80 Aspen radiators are around 150 dollars online, but they're all 2-row.

I'm replacing a 3-row stock-type round top.

I found a 3-row that might fit...
It's narrow enough...

It is for a 65-66 Mustang with 289 V8.
Some places sell 4-row radiators too.
The inlet and outlet are on the right side, but the bottom pipe is 1/4" bigger diameter than the Aspen/Dart radiators.
Can a 1 1/2" radiator hose be stretched over a 1 3/4" outlet ?

H'mm...gee...I donno that I'd want to put a Ford radiator in my Mopar; it'd probably cause overheating!

Seriously, if you can make it fit reasonably cleanly, go for it. The hose size is going to be a problem, for you cannot stretch a 1½" hose over a 1¾" outlet. But, you could get a radiator shop to replace the outlet. That, or you could use a cheesy flex hose that has a 1¾" end and a 1½" end.

I think this Gates 20697 hose will work for the bottom. The ends are 1 1/2 and 1 3/4 inch.

I'm having a little problem finding the right 65 v8 mustang radiator.
Most of them are like this:



I'm looking for a 3-row like this one, AIR PRO RC 0100, with the rectangular bottom tank, because the outlet is an inch farther to the right:






The aluminum ones also have this lower tank-outlet configuration.

There was only one reason I went with an F-body radiator: They're very common in local junkyards, while early A-body radiators are very hard to find. It was just a matter of dropping in something that fit, had adequate cooling, and happened to be handy.

I'm searching for a replacement/aftermarket radiator with as much cooling as the 3-row that my engine is used to.

The mounting bolts on my 63 are 21 1/2" apart. Isn't it 24" for an F-body?
The radiator support opening is only 19 3/4 inches wide. The outer edge of the mounting surface is 22 3/4 inches.
That's about the width of the F-body core, so the flanges will stick out at least an inch.

Fitting other radiators to the 63 involve cutting the radiator flanges and/or the radiator support. I want to avoid that.
I want the radiator to fit on the mounting surface and only require drilling a couple new holes.

The availablity of parts for the 63 Valiant and early Mustangs are almost inversely proportional.

The 65-66 mustang radiator attracted my attention because the outlets are on the right side and it's narrow. In fact, it's too narrow - 16 1/4 vs 19 3/4.
The 67-70 289 radiator's core is 20 inches wide. It has narrow front flanges that appear to fit within the mounting surface. The cap is in the center and the overflow tube even points in the right direction (left).

The only problem is the outlet is not far enough to the right. If I can work out how to fit the 68 ford radiator,
replacements will still be available off the shelf five years from now.

I think this is the 20" wide radiator. (there's also a 24" wide one)
