I 've read hear that the stock rocker ratio can very a lot. (1.45 - 1.65) My builder suggests that I should maybe get the roller rocker setup for a couple of reasons. 1. Consitant ratio and 2 less friction and valve guide wear. We allready have are cam custom ground to .520 lift. He is suggesting that if its available to get the 1.5 ratio. I know that the 1.6 is available and would hate to spend the same money on the 1.5s if I could benifit from the 1.6s. The lift is high as it is and with the over sized valves (1.85/1.5) maybe he thinking 1.6 ratio is just overkill.
If there is a 1.5 ratio is there anything special about installing them?
I was told about a oil spray bar that would be needed for the street.

For the mill you're planning, stick with the 1.5 (read slantzilla's first hand experience)

Personally, I think the whole rocker ratio thing is just a tempest in a tea cup. I have seen a lot of cars faster than mine running stock arms.

I have tried the 1.6 rockers twice. They ate pushrods both times. The second test I should have had shorter pushrods made first, so that wasn't really the rockers' fault. :?

If this is going to be a street car Stock 1.5 are fine. For all out race and a endless supply of money,do what you want. I was accused of being stupid for wasteing money and time on a Slant Six. For half of what was spent I could of put in a big block and ran 10's, but that wasn't what I wanted.
You are very focused and have a plan, It's yours,Run with it.

I agree with Bagel and Romeo . I have run 1.6 rollers on a basicaly stock engine. Got them for winning the 2000 National Championship . The 1.6 ratio did not pick up the et by much maybe a couple hundredths not much bang for the buck for over 500 dollars. But they are stable and will stay adjusted good they have lock nuts. My race engine has the 1.5 ratio roller rockers with Smith Bros custom length push rods. Origionally my race engine which has more lift and duration than your cam ran stock rockers and pushrods. Problems showed up first with the pushrods bent two and broke one second a rocker arm failed luckly we did not destroy a engine. If you are going to be in the 6500 rpm range I would recomed them anything less than 6000 stock should be ok. But them alluminum rockers are sweet puppys. Thanks Ron Parker :D

That's good advice, but you should have your eyes open while you run and know where you're going. It also doesn't hurt to know where the tripwires and stumbling blocks lie. Do what you want to do but do it on a foundation that is proven and avoid things that are proven wrong. There's a huge difference between someone saying it won't work because it's never been done and someone saying that it won't work because it has been done and didn't work.

This motor will be turning about 6200 rpm with a 4.25 stroke. I think I have decided to stay with the stock rockers. The building cost of the motor has gone to the moon from what I planned to spend. I think from carb to pan I am just under $5000.

I will just say this from racing experence in the last three years. And my race engine cost more than that. Are you going to depend on stock engine parts who knows how many miles are on them to go into a 5000 dollar engine reving over than 6000 rpms. Think :D Thanks Ron Parker

I got a set of rebuilt stockers from Rocker Arm Specialists for about $85 shipped to my door. They did not even want cores back.

Oh I believe your race motors cost more. My labor and machining costs have been reduced do to the fact that where planning to write an article to have published in one of the car mags. This motor would likley cost twice as much otherwise.
quick parts list include:
stroked crank
custom forge pistons -pins floated -sprial locks
Total Seal iron ductile GapLess rings
bore 3.597? around there I forget
over sized valves 1.85/1.5
head ported
.520 custom grind cam
half hard blocked
470cfm 4-barrel holley-planned
these are just the high points
