Edi 2: Thanks Dan, I was able to change my order, I really appreciate it.
Edit: Slant Six Dan figured it out. FYI - Pioneer CA-8417 is the correct accelerator cable for a 2bbl with A/T for $19.09 (or ATP Y-156 $16.24). www.autosupplyco.com use 74 Dart 2bbl 318 for a search vehicle.

Original Post: I am trying to order a new accelerator cable for my super six set up. The part number I come up with is for a 1979 Aspen 2bbl, A/T, Pioneer CA-8415.

Would the 79 Aspen be the right cable for a 2 bbl carter, A/T on a 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger?

I know it seems dumb, but I have come across part number CA-8413 for a 77-78 Aspen.

Has anybody ordered this part before?

I do not believe that is correct. The Y163 is 30½" long, which is much too long for a 225-2bbl in an A-body. It also has the square plastic ferrule at the firewall end rather than the round metal one needed for cars made through approximately '77. The factory cable for a 225 2bbl in an A-body (factory equipment outside North America from '67-'76) was the same cable used for a 2bbl V8 in an A-body. Factory P/N 2899 336, 19½" long with round metal ferrule at the firewall end. That cable is an ATP Y156.

Just to round out this list, the Y155 is the A-body 225-1bbl throttle cable (24½" long, round metal ferrule), and Y161 is the short (19¼") cable as used in a 225-2bbl A-body, but with the square plastic ferrule.

When I couldn't find one in my local parts stores (one place ordered me a square hole kind), I bought a 73 Dart 318 cable from RockAuto, ATP Part # Y156. Fits just fine.

Hi all,

I realize this is an old thread, but my search of two days seems to be narrowing down. At least I have the right cable in sight.

I swapped the 1bbl manifold and carb out of my '63 convertible Valiant for a 2bbl setup and quickly learned that I had to go from a linkage throttle to a cable throttle.

I've read a few posts and even an article on this site about the process and realized what I was doing was part of a Super Six conversion.

Right now, I do not have the cable/pedal assembly and I'm trying to determine if, in fact, there is a direct swap set up for the pedal assembly that does not require any modification of the firewall or fabrication of a bracket.

If I'm understanding what I'm reading, then a cable/pedal assembly out of a v8 A body between '64 and '66 should do that?

Does anyone have a clear photo of the pedal assembly if this is the case?

Or, maybe someone can take a look at this item I found on ebay and let me know if I'm headed down the right track (or headed into trouble! :) )
ebay item#: 110124764852

I've had my Valiant in the garage for over 3 years now and my wife has never even had the chance to go for a ride in it! I have made a promise to myself that I was going to get my car on the road this summer because a '63 convertible Valiant sitting in the garage is such a waste on a sunny day! :D

Thanks very much!

P.S. The engine is a 225, by the way.

Yep...

Not on a '63. The first year cable-operated throttle provisions were present on the firewall was '64. Pre-'67 cable-throttle parts are pretty scarce, and you're looking at drilling holes whatever you use. Easiest path forward is to pick up a '67+ A-body accelerator pedal assembly and mount that up.

It'll bolt right to the floor, but you'll still have to drill the firewall. '67-up "hanging" accelerator pedals don't bolt to the floor at all.

That's a B-body setup. They can be made to work on A-bodies (need the B-body pedal) but...you guessed it...you have to drill the firewall!

You could probably grab a firewall-mounted hanging accelerator pedal assembly from just about anything with roughly similar footwell dimensions, it strikes me...

Thanks for the advice!

I did get a couple of B-body setups and they look more trouble than they are worth for sure.

I have a hanging setup from an A body, but it has this plastic grommet with a square peg. Should I use that? Or is there maybe a better one? If I'm not totally mistaken, I recall reading something somewhere about a hanging setup that didn't have the square peg grommet.

These are the times you just wish you had someone else's car to look at. :)

Thanks again!

Curtis

The plastic/square setup can be accommodated by simply using the matching throttle cable -- see earlier posts in this thread.

Hello, i'd like to add a question in here since it seems to fit the subject.

Will the one barrel carb use the same accelerator cable as a two barrel carb in my 69 Charger? Autosupplyco.com has a calbe for my 69 dodge charger but it says its for a two barrel and i have a one barrel. my engine is out of a 70 Coronet.

thanks

There were no 2bbls installed on 225s in B-bodies in '69-'70, only 1bbls. The B-body cables are longer than the A-body cables. Autosupplyco.com doesn't come up for me, so I can't see what they're listing. What is the brand and p/n of what you're being shown?

I typed in 69 Dodge Charger 225 and the cable that comes up is part number CA-8410. Description reads 2BBL; 3698839; Years1968-1969; Per Car Qty:1;

Another Charger owner told me that the cable needs to be 24" long. And it doesnt matter how many barrels the carb has.

No good, a CA-8410 isn't going to fit a '69. It's got the plastic square ferrule, and you need the metal round one.

Image

Correct P/N for your cable is 2843 748, which is not cross-referenced in any book I have. Do you have a cable in the car at all right now? Can you measure its length?

Nope, the engine came without a cable. Is that part number a Mopar part number?

Yes, but probably been N/A for years.

If a 24" cable will work for you, then use ATP # Y155.
