It's been awhile since I thought about my old slant six, My Dodge van think it was a 75 . Killed that van way back on my High schoool graduation night by taking out a telephone pole.

Anyway to the present. A have a 92 Mighty Max pick up, basiclly a Dodge Ram 50, with a soon to be wore out 4 banger. I've thought of some differnt motor ideas and am intriqued with a slant 6 in the engine compartment and I like differnt. How much room from firewall to radiator would be needed to fit a slant 6 in there.

The SL6 is 32 inches long, water pump 'nose' to bellhousing flange.
Figure 34 to 35 inches of engine bay, plus any fan thickness and the radiator.

Small blocks will fit a D50 if you put the radiator in front of the core support. The slant is longer.

Just a heads up, my first car when I was 16 was 91 mighty max, the engine was awesome, we got the tranny (A-500) rebuilt 2 times and 3 torque converters. It was a headache... so shove a slant in! Also if it is an automatic I'm pretty sure the A-904 is a replacement without the o/d

I did some measuring tonight and it looks like a slant6 is not going to fit without firewall or other major front end mods

Guess I'll have to try and go the V6 or V8 route.

The other option would be to put in a Mitsubishi 4G63 Turbo four banger - the same motor used in turbo Eclipses and the Lancer Evolution. It's very closely related to the stock D50 / Mighty Max motor, and can make a huge amount of power.

Hadn't even thought of something like that. I asume enough guys crash them that a motor with all the computer stuff would be "Fairly" easy to find?

Yeah, the problem with a 4G63 is that the front drive blocks don't bolt to the rear drive transmissions.

I've seen it done before, as long as the truck has a 4G6x motor of some sort. The usual issue seems to be that the manifold needs to be modified because the stock throttle body would hit the firewall.

It's been done, but the top bellhousing bolt holes are farther apart on a rear drive block.

I guess since this thread is already off the original slant6 idea I'll ask another Mitsubishi question. I had a 95 New Yorker with a 3.5L V6 which I'm sure was a Mitsubishi motor although it was FWD. Did this engine get used in any RWD vehicles?
