 Post subject: Engine Identification
PostPosted: Fri Aug 09, 2002 6:15 am
I need some help determining/verifying which engine is in my 63 Valiant.

It's obviously a /6. That's the easy part.

I believe the car originally had a 225.

The vin number is 1337201635.

I was trying to compare the numbers on the block with the vin number and am guessing that this is not the original engine.

The numbers cast on the block under my exhaust manifold are 2463430-2. There is also a 6, 14 next to the little square Mopar symbol.

On the other side of the block right behind the coil there is a number engraved on a little lip by where the head meets the block. This number is T226212. I think I got the entire thing, but it might be possible that I didn't get all the numbers on that one.

Any help I can get here would be appreciated. I am about to the stage where I will be looking seriously about engine performance and thought this would be a good place to start.

Thanks,

John Killin

" behind the coil there is a number engraved on a little lip by where the head meets the block . . . T226212."

Bill Watson from the Forward Look group provides this info:
=============================
For Chrysler's letter years :

First run through :
F - 1953
G - 1954
H - 1955
J - 1956
K - 1957
L - 1958
M - 1959
P - 1960 (except Valiant)
Q - 1960 Valiant only
R - 1961
S - 1962
T - 1963
V - 1964

Not sure about A thorugh E, but I believe it is :
A - 1942
B - 1946-49 (first series)
C - 1949
D - 1950
E - 1951-52

The second run :
A - 1965
B - 1966
C - 1967
D - 1968
E - 1969
F - 1970
G - 1971
H - 1972
J - 1973
K - 1974
L - 1975
M - 1976
P - 1977
R - 1978
S - 1979
=================
Since you have a 63, I think your block should be stamped with identification starting with "T" and you do. My 1960 has the block stamped (top edge of water pump housing) stamped with identification beginning with "P".

"vin 1 3 3 7 201635" definitions:
---------------------
1 Valiant line
3 upscale car line, V200
3 year, 1963
7 manufacturing plant number ( I forget which one)
201635 means 101635th car produced from this plant in this model year.
Hope this helps.

"T22" is a 1963 225, the 6212... is the engine assembly sequance number.
The block's casting number 2463430 is for the 60-67, "3 freeze plug" type blocks, the -2 is the pattern equipment set used to do the casting.
None of this has much meaning beond the fact that your 63 seems to still have it's origional 225 engine.
