All of my years with I have never snapped off a dip stick housing. What is the best fix for this?. I know someone has had this happen to them, I can't be the first one. Even the cat shook his head and walked away.

I don't know of any fix other than to replace the tube. A tube should not be hard to find.

my dipstick tube slides in and out easily. has been that way for years. maybe u can pull the stub out with an Easy-out, or some sort of screw extractor?

Thanks for the info. Been too long to remember what we would do before. I know there is a universal kit made that will bolt onto the oil pan but. don't know that will look. I think we would take the stub out and thread the block and use a piece of 1/8 pipe or something like that. I called Mitchell's and Frank said that from time to time he gets them in. I have the part number. What is the last year they made the slant 6, don't remember, I am sure everyone know but me, thanks. Jim

Getting slow in my old age but, I am catching up with the past. I was thinking about the dip stick. I went to NAPA and got a piece of 3/8 steel gas line, cut it and it was tight enough that I had to drive it in with a hammer. Cut it to length and then took the bender and put a small off-set to match the original one and it works just fine, new and tight. The stock tube is made of the same thing.

Well Done! ( "we don't need no stinken' over priced NOS dipstick tube)

The steel tubing is exactly the same gage and size all around. In fact when you drive it in with a piece of wood you can see it shave off about one thousand, tight enough you can take the tubing cutters and cut it off to length and then take a tubing bender and put the little bend in to clear the manifold. It made me so good that I think I will open the hood of all the rest of the cars and brake them all off, ha!
