mainly power adders. With modern tuning aids, water injection, etc. people are pushing more and more boost into their motors. Also of course there is the naturally aspirated motor that has so much overlap in the cam and so much bore in the carb/ throttle body that it is useless for good power unless it is screaming to the limits of rpm.

I think a good rule for street performance is that any more than one hp per cid is getting past average good tuning and into the range of tweaky short lived and expensive motors.

MPG is a similar problem- do you want to get forty miles per gallon? Is it ok if every 50mph merge is a scary experience, not to mention the anguish of the retard in front of you stopping at the bottom of the ramp, then you need to hop up to 50mph from a stop? Do you mind not having a back seat, or spare tire, or tools to get you home?

People around here seem to get high teens/ low twenties mpg with very careful tuning and light feet. I tend to drive mine 80mph both ways to work and I like a little acceleration here and there. Otherwise I would get a honda scooter. I get 12-15mpg with a heavy foot and somewhat fat a/f mix.

Good luck, I hope I helped!

Kevin

What is your budget?

Mine is pretty spunky at 160 HP 200 foot pounds of torque with a little 1920 Holley one barrel. That is about $2000 worth of machining and parts. That is a bottom line setup for torque and mileage for a 3000 lb car.

You can go up from there as your budget allows.

I drive for 4 hours a day back and forth to work mixed back roads (yes, I do alot of passing), city and freeway. Minimum 130 miles a day. I like a well handling comfortable car that will hit 90 from a dead stop on a freeway ramp...... I usually only need 65 or 70 most days from a dead stop. Worst mileage this winter driving heavy footed is 21 mpg.

The only thing I like better is driving my 69 Chrysler 300 with a 375HP 440. The Dart is fun and very spunky. Fine tune your setup first before you go crazy. There is allot of hidden power in a SL6. There are numerous things you can do, when added up make quite a bit of difference. :D
