I am wondering if anyone has experimented with using Singh grooves in slant 6 to improve mileage and power. Apparently the theory is grooves sliced into the quench area of a cylinder head will cause a squirt of gas/air to be swirled around a strategic part of the combustion chamber, vastly increasing combustion and improving power and fuel economy. Can someone post a picture of a slant 6 combustion chamber, and has anyone measured the typical deck height of a mid 70's 1 barrel slant 6 motor piston (how far in the hole?)

You can look at the pics of the two styles of combustion chamber (the early 60's with the 'dime' spot in the quench area, and the improved 'shelf')...

I'm not sure how grooving the quench area in the slant will work until we really have a quench area to work with... in this case the piston can be anywhere from -.145 to .185 below the deck of the block... then you would have to scratch about .2 off the cylinder head to get the shelf right at the block deck... (.35 off a slant and you'll be needing to run some diesel there, with out some major piston work and rod reworking)

There was a huge discussion on the Singh grooves on Moparts a few weeks ago. One of the engine builders did some dyno work with them too. IIRC, the consensus was that they do little or nothing in reality except maybe lower exhaust temp.

This topic refuses to die. It just goes dormant for not long enough at a time.

See here and here .
