As of this week, the changes are:

New windsheild installed (wow I can see!), took the 1 barrel throttle cable out and put a super six 'shorty' cable in... I have also had to adjust the BBD's choke and linkage a bit as the 'cold' weather we have had is enough that the 'stock' settings for the carb weren't enough to get her started in the morning...

Other than that... she's running pretty good... need to get another benchmark when the roads don't have ice on them...

Since I have a few days off (thinks are slowing down construction-wise)...

The sun was out so I cleaned out the shed so the FDX could come home while I still collect her easter eggs for construction...

In the mean time I weighed in again and the car loaded for the road and me and a full gas tank does weigh in at 3400 lbs... (can't wait to get to the
track and unload all the tools, and the spare...)

The super six distributor is clocked to be 'all in' at something like 4400 rpm.... I changed the springs and now have a super six distributor that is 'all in' by 3100 rpm (and now I have a fair amount of vacc. advance... and it looks like no ping on the highway and life is good...)
I'm also using a 1974 BBD off some Plymouth 'Boat' car with a 318 (which has some nice 'rich' jetting...

Anyhow:

G Tech runs ran both ways (eliminate terrain and wind factors)'for power' which means I ran the clock up to 4-4500 rpm instead of 'staying low' for 'street use'....

I'm stilll not sure how the firmware/software reverts the data for the HP/TQ yet...

Best Run number 1:

110.6 HP @ 3666
181.5 ft/lbs TQ @ 2579

17.18@ 82.6 mph

Best Run 2 (back the other way)...

129.8 HP@3818
200 ft/lbs @2848...

16.28 @88.01 mph

Still no 'scratch' out of the 2.94 rear gears... but it hold firm, and lanuches fine... I think if I go any faster the 9" drums are going to have to go...  ... and disc's are gonna be next on the list....

-D.Idiot

Next up... garage cleanup and Holley 2305 transplant (and suspension redo for the Hpak duster...)

I went down to Ceej's today and got to 'benchmark' my mileage with the Holley 2305/80120...

So far it's a miserable 11-12 in the city and 18 on the highway (of course having my foot in it, or chirping the tires in front of Ceej's place didn't help...sorry, no mayor around for blocks...)

I think 3 mods will be instore for the carb....
1) the transition circuit is a bit lean when the throttle plates are in partial throttle and it leans out during the 'overrev' of the down shifting when the plates are shut and high vacc./rpms occur... so a change to the 'idle' enrichment/bleeds/ plate slots may be in order...
2) the choke sticks a bit... I worked on that and changed to a manual choke... but don't like it... so I'll have to work on a good electric choke that is adjusted right (probably why the in-town mileage is a couple gallons on the low side)
3) the main circuit is a little too good during highway cruise, and probably can bump the primary jet down from 61 to a 60 or 58... and the secondary side from the '67' to maybe a 65-63... by the time I'm in the secondary side the power valve is popping open anyway (you can drop from 15-0 in the full push of the pedal...)

Will know more later (gotta get the mileage back up, or the 4 barrel pak duster will be laughing at the pro stock beater)

Ok, so this is what I like to do @ 2AM, I didnt know that. Awesome thread though man, that ride we went on in the BV was definitely not what I was expecting. I would like to see the G-meter in action though I think that would be awesome. All you gotta do now is get that throttle to quit sticking when you get on her a little bit.

Other than that... all I can say is I wish mine ran 1/2 as good!

THat's the onebad thing about used carbs... there's always something... in this case a previous owner hacked a chunk out of the fast idle cam lever and after a hard run it always seems to 'dance' back into fast idle mode....

I think trying to find a counterweight or making a substitute lever would help...

OK, out goes the 2305 and super six intake... in goes the offy, stock manifold, and Holley 4160 450cfm carb....

Will have to iron out the kinks once I get the bracketry figured out...

Of course, not long after I do this, I have the parts to swap out the suspension that will be able to take the abuse...

So once I dial this in, next up will be the suspension/brake upgrade...
swap out...

LOL.

Well, I'm tired of 9" drums, SBP, and the bushings are needing replaced...

So today it was nice and sunny out so I tore the front suspension and "then some" out from under BV...

Image

I've had this 1976 spool type K-member for a few years now and hadn't used it yet. I have a buddy that welded and unitized it up for me. (I'll check but if anyone else wants this done I think he charges $175 to pressure wash, sand blast, and weld it up, not including shipping/handling)

Here's all the goodies, I didn't get them all in before I ran out of sunlight, but got the whole underside torn out, installed the K-member, the new UCA's and was working on installing the new upper ball joints when I ran out of time....

Image

So we are now going to have standard disk brakes up front, 892/893 torsion bars, and a factory front sway bar.... I'll get to see how Mr.Spiva's poly spool bushings work (and possibly get another couple of sets).

Image

Here's a quick picture I took after I pulled the old sandwich K-Member.
Note the two freshly drilled holes that are a bit wet...

If you are pulling a K-member and need to "insure" you don't seize one of the 4 bolts holding the K to the frame (the "nuts" aren't welded into the frame channel, they are held in with a "spot weld" and U channel...have broken one before and I'll have to cut open and re-weld the nut to the channel)...

Anyhow, drill a small hole near the bolt in the frame...insert straw attached to your PB blaster can... soak them, then go do something else...repeat... I was able to use a moderate size breaker bar and a 1 1/16" socket and after a little coaxing at first, they should ease right up once you get some "wet threads" into the nut....

After the front end...the rear end will get pulled (THOR needs it for the "Cool Mint Julep" Duster...and I think the duster will appreciate 2.94's over the 2.76's it has...), I'm debating on what ratio at the moment, I was going to put a 3.21 open rear under it...but I found a "drag" ready rear for the Hpak duster, so the BV may end up with the 3.55 sure grip from the Hpak car...Either way, I also have an A-833 OD I need to get refurbished and swap into this car as well, I think the lighter body and the 3.55's should be great for mileage and "pep", with the short cam slant in her.

More later,

-D.Idiot
