I was bored so I did the caliper piston area math. The area of the Viper 40/44mm front caliper pistons is 4.3 square inches. The 38/42mm pistons is 3.89 square inches which is 90.5% of the front.

The C5 vette calipers I've been working on are 3.98 sq. inches, if I remember the piston size correctly at 40.4mm each. The late rear viper calipers probably have the advantage though due to rigidity.

As it turns out none of the '03 Viper calipers have the fluid inlet drilled. :? The earlier model calipers are drilled. So I'm going to put the early calipers up for sale and work on making the late model calipers serviceable.

My eyes have deceived me! The fluid inlets on the late model Viper calipers are drilled. Turns out the fluid inlet is perfectly centered over one caliper piston and it only appears as though the passage goes know where. Put a little air pressure in there and the pistons move fine. I popped the pistons out of one caliper and everything looks great. :P

Come down to the shop sometime and I'll show you how it looks on the car. Maybe we'll put you on an installment plan. Once a month you can bring over some cash and we'll give you another bracket or rotor!

BTW - I need a LF red caliper and I might be interested in the rear one also. You should be able to get some good bucks for the early pair, those are expensive new. I sell a lot of the Viper on 11.75 kits so it should be easy to sell those early calipers.

I was thinking I'd keep the extra LF caliper for spares, but you've got a better chance of talking me out of it than most. I'm not going to drive to your place over and over again though. It's too darn far. I've got a buyer for the early front calipers, but I practically gave them away. I did threaten to double the price if he backs out though.

Well just give me a shout if you want to come down to the lovely town of Wilsonville. I'd be interested in the LF and the rear caliper. You should be able to get $300 for the early Viper calipers if they are in good shape. I think they cost about $1000 for a new pair these days from the Dodge dealer.

I will second that, and add effective.

I wonder if I could modify the Viper text to say Valiant. Hmm...

:)

The Porsche setup is a little more exotic than the Viper setup but I couldn't figure out a way to build rotor hats that would stay true. Besides, most Mopar guys want Viper parts on their car not Porsche parts.

Josh, that looks beautiful. That is a real inspiration for me to get under the car and start to detail the suspension parts on my Dart. Can you supply a photo of the sway car tab set up on this car?

Sam

That's Andy's car not mine. Not of my stuff is that clean, but not of it's greasy and gross either.

I did autocross the '96 2.5L Dakota today. I wasn't able to beat my friend Dave and has 383 powered '70 Coronet wagon though. He beat me 43.280 to my 44.792.

Only reason my car is clean is because I never drive it! I pulled the engine out and sold it a few years ago and haven't gotten around to putting a new one in yet. I've owned this '65 B body for more than 25 years and have only driven it a few thousand miles in all of that time.

Sorry for the mistaken credit. They do stay clean if you don;t drive them. But, some guys do clean them up after each race or show. It seems like alot of work to me. But, I am now under the front of my car scraping, cleaning, metal prepping, and painting parts. They have needed this for a long time, and that photo inspired me. I know it won't stay looking fresh, but once every 10 years or so is not too often to freshen it up.

Andy, is that you at the engine hoist?

Sam
