So, THOR and I got together today and based on a brilliant idea of his got a 2.25" exhaust installed on my car, something I've been wanting to do since I put the 2bbl on the engine.
2.25" flex pipe + no muffler = one very mean sounding car. :twisted:
We still have some work to do tomorrow morning, because the length of pipe we got isn't quite long enough and some exhaust still gets in through windows. Tomorrow before I go to work we'll get some more added on so that won't happen.
Hopefully I'll remember to bug THOR to get out his camera for pictures and/or a video tomorrow when we're done.

I still have to install the new headlamps and wiring harness I got from SlantSixDan, too - that'll be amazing. I'll be able to drive my car at night again!

And, I'm one step closer to at least front disc conversion, having recently snagged some 73 UCAs from Piston.Hurricane.

Hopefully in the next couple months I'll be able to save up enough for some new leaf springs, as mine are SHOT and it's getting irritating having my car riding low enough to scrape on driveways like THOR's.

So that's the update on my Audrey, like I said, hopefully I'll get some pictures or a video or both tomorrow.

awesome stef! i'm stoked to see its all comming along.
what ya gonna stick on it for a muffler? i personally like glass paks my self cause there cheap and loud as hell! also congratz on finding parts for your disc break conversion, i am now scrounging up the same parts my self for my 73' dart, cause i am sick of adjusting my front drums every week. sorry we kept THOR for so long but we ran into all kinds of hell.

have you done any work to your interior yet?

I wouldn't think that flex-pipe would flow very well because the inside isn't smooth (at least the flex-pipe I've seen)...........

MiDi - if I stick a muffler back on (I may not, we'll see), it'll probably be the flowmaster that was on the car when I bought it. Otherwise, glasspack for sure.
The disc brake converson will be nice, it'll be a while til I can go through with it, seeing as I still need a dual pot MC, prop valve, and then everything for the actual brakes. Plus, when I install the brakes I plan on doing a front suspension overhaul at the same time, so I have to save up to get all those parts too. Whee!!
I have done nothing to my interior, nor am I planning on it - it's really the least of my worries, unless I find some awesome vinyl for the seats on sale that I can't pass up. Until then, it stays. So no fear, you'll be able to see it in all its glory.

No, it probably doesn't flow as well as real exhaust pipe. However, it does at least open the exhaust up from the stock exhaust, and it's a lot cheaper than getting real exhaust right now. It feels like it's still an improvement from the stock exhaust when driving, although I'd imagine real 2.25" exhaust pipe would be even better. I only make maybe $700 - 800/month, so until I can find a better-paying job that won't drive me crazy, I have to keep things on the cheap.

So, still haven't finished off the exhaust yet, but THOR and I worked on the sending unit for the gas tank today. The sending unit itself works, but the gasket was pretty toasted and the fuel line coming out of the unit had been knocked loose from the unit, creating more of a leak.
We replaced the gasket with another gasket THOR is kinda-maybe-sure was the gasket from his Valiant. In any case, it was in much better condition than the one I had on there before. We soldered the fuel line back in place, replaced the length of hose because that was becoming tar, and gave it a shot..

.. Sadly, the tank is still leaking. I can't tell exactly where from right now, I have to wait until I can get my car up on jackstands again, but.. we'll see. I may just have to get a whole new sending unit and gasket.

Also, something curious. The previous owner had put three strips of duct tape on the top of the tank - one on each side, one running down the middle. THOR speculated they were there to act kind of like dampners.. I can't really see how that would work.
Any ideas?

I suggested that because it would keep the metal to metal contact between the tank and the car to a minimum. At least thats the only logical explanation I can come up with.....

I agree that I cannot really see the purpose of have 3 evenly spaced strips of duct tape running front to back on the top of the tank.

Even if it were a later model tank, I doubt that the duct tape would make any difference for anything.

We'll pull the tank sometime soon when your almost empty and see whats up.

So, at Ceej's car repair BBQ shindig on the 4th, I went down to Ceej's house in the morning and removed the sending unit in my tank, and Ceej, MiDi and I then went to Fopar's where he welded that sending unit back together where it had cracked around the fuel line coming out of the sending unit.
YAY!
We got back, and went to go put everything back together, when I realised that the make-shift gasket THOR had put in wasn't really cutting it. Ceej had the old gasket he'd pulled from his Valiant (I think) which was still in decent shape and just needed a little TLC and would hopefully be ok..
:( it wasn't. Drove the car back up to Salem on Saturday all fine (gas had been below the level of the sending unit when we started anyway, so couldn't tell whether it was good or not then) and later headed to the gas station to add some more in or the trip to Midi's that evening.
Gas started pouring from the sending unit area to the gas station concrete below - it looks like the gasket didn't seal at all. :shock: Lost about $20 that way, but I guess that teaches me to remember to get a new gasket before doing such things.
In any case, I'm going down to the parts store tomorrow after work and ordering a new one to put in as soon as I can.

Its been a hell of a pain trying to get that thing to seal for you.... but, when you get that new gasket, we'll put it in, then we will go to the gas station with a 5 gallon gas can, and fill it at my house... that way we can put a pan under it to catch what gas comes out.... if any *crosses fingers*

I realized I haven't updated this in a bit, and there has been quite a few improvements to my car, as well as quite a few people to thank for their help.
DusterIdiot recurved a distributor for me, which has been installed and is working WONDERFULLY.
Fopar saw my flex-pipe exhaust system and said "No" to that, and put together a proper 2.25" exhaust pipe for me, with a glasspack I got from the local parts store as a muffler. Quieter than before, and I can FEEL the difference in the engine. I think it actually has caused the engine to run a little cooler too, although I'm not sure if that's actually the cause - it could be the distributor too. Not sure.
Ceej and THOR helped me patch and an exhaust leak I had at the manifold. The exhaust manifold bolt closest to the firewall snapped off, so they had to figure out a way to dig it out, then retap the hole. It didn't work quite as planned, but it's not leaking anymore and that's the most important part.
Ceej also showed me how to create a wiring harness for the headlight kit SlantSixDan sent me - and we installed it. Hooray for seeing at night!!
I don't think I'll ever need to use my brights, the headlamps are that good. :shock: :D
Coming soon, suspension and (hopefully) steering box rebuilds!
And, if I have film in my camera, or can commandeer somebody's digital camera, there will actually be photos. :)
