You can put 999 or 998 guts in the 904 like I just did. I guess I don't understand why you'd willingly suffer reduced performance and mileage by sticking with the 727. BTW, 727 and 904 valve bodies interchange. A&A trans has good valve bodies, but I modified my own with a Trans-Go TF2 kit.

Man your right about the tranny, I think I will bite the bullet and rebuild the 904.so joshie what came with 999/998 trannies ? what from the 904 gets reused ?

318s got A998s, 2bbl 360s without the 727 got the A999 starting about 1976. The 998 trans is much easier to find and plenty strong for a slant.
