I helped my grandfather rebuild this carb, and he has rebuilt many over the years. It has a new float (adjusted right) and all new internals that I ordered from the Daytona Parts Co.
Good and grand, but that still only means this particular 1920 in its present configuration "sucks" (i.e., doesn't work well). Using a sample size of one to declare "1920s suck" is just not realistic (and the assertion itself is still wrong).

the 1920 getting about 13-15 mpg. I have heard that is pretty common for them.
Bull. It's not. There's something the matter with your 1920, grandpa or no grandpa.

Also it hesitates a little when you accelerate too hard.
Further evidence that there's something the matter with it.

You are still basing your comparison "1920s suck and 1945s rule" on exactly two carburetors, and that's just stinkin' thinkin'.

Well if it did suck....it would be working wouldnt it? ALL carbs are supposed to suck

Ok, let me say it diferently, my 1920 sucks. I have gone through two of these and both of them were bad. I have read on here as well as some other sites that some people have had som probs with theirs. I now know why that car I pulled it off of was in a junk yard.

I didn't say 1945s rule, mine was not that good either. The 1920 gives better drivability and idle quality, but thats it. I am not trying to start an argument here, I am just saying my experiences with my 1920 has not been that good.

I have done everything I could to fix the 1920, but no luck. I am putting a carter bbd 2bbl on, and its time to let someone else mess with that other carb.
