Got a phone call, today, from Glen Hickman. There will be a Mopar meet at Valdosta, Ga on Memorial Day weekend, 2009. We can have our Slant Six shootout, but the deal is the same as 2008. We need to supply a $500 purse, by the end of Oct 2008. That way the South Georgia Mopar Club can have our info in the event flyers. This meet will be all 1/8 mile racing, for all classes. We have our choice of running our race on Saturday or Sunday. Both days have advantages, Sunday is good for those that have to work on Friday, and need a travel day. Saturday, would allow Sunday to be a rain date. I would like some feedback on this. Also, we need to start raising some money for the purse. Any and all contributiuons are greatfully accepted. To keep this race alive, we really need to have a good turnout, like we had in 2008, or even more cars.

I don't know how much I'll be able to contribute financially at this time, but I'm planning on attending. I should know in a few weeks if I can chip in a few bucks. I will if I can for sure.

Is there a way to make this a 2-day Slant Six race?? After the discussions at Knoxville and Wilkesboro, I think we need to start planning for these next year.

My take is that we should have 4-5 races of 2 days each, for those east of the Mississippi.

My initial thoughts are:

Valdosta (serves FL, GA, and far SE folks)
Wilkesboro (serves GA, TN, NC, SC core racers)
Knoxville or Clay City or Farmington (serves TN, KY, NC, SC... folks)
Pittsburgh or MD area race (serves PA, VA, and other NE folks)
St. Louis or Chicago?? (Midwest, some SE and some NE folks)

This would condense our efforts and give regional folks at least one they could make.

If we only have 4-5 races, I would most likely make Valdosta and throw in some $$.

Lou

I don't know for sure, but I will hazzard a couple of guesses.
1) speeds the show up
2) less chance of down time, last year there was a couple of accadents, and some breakage.
3) A lot of the tracks in in the area the cars come from are 1/8 mile tracks, and they are not set up for the 1/4 mile, whereas a 1/4 mile car can run the 1/8.
PS: according to Glen this is the main reason.

Lou
I cannot say for sure, but I think, if we could get enough money to have a purse for each day, it would fly.

I gave Glenn a call, and he will get with the race/show commitee, with this proposal, and get back to me next week. He does not see a problem.
