Let me guess, it started as a simple project and kinda snowballed?

its never easy as it looks. i dont envy you in regards to wiring. i hate electrics. give me things i can cut and weld, thats what i like. but never wiring.

keep the focus, take breaks when you need to. just remember, it will still love you even if you dont touch it for a week or two. keep the pics coming.

oh yeah, nothing like the look of a freshly done block. nice looking work

You sure there are new guides in there? Valves don't look like they've been out and if you do guide work you have to do seat work.

I agree with Josh though. If you are going through this much effort you should really at least lap the valves.

By the way, that tool looks much better than the I used to replace the last set of valve stem seals I did. Nothing like getting through the valves up to intake on #4 and then having the tool break, at 9 P.M. at night. Where did you get it?

Harbor Freight - Item # 92900 Central Forge Univ Overhead Valve Spring Compressor - $7.99. works pretty damn good, just slow going cause i'm a n00b i also had to put my studs back in since the shop took all of them out, that took me a while also. and yes i put anti-seize on the threads. more pictures to come because this weekend is go time for the motor.

You need to put thread locker or some other sealant on the manifold retaining studs as the studs holes are open to the head's water jacket.

I hate to be a wet blanket, but your pronouncement of this car having to get back on the road as it's your daily driver and claims of poverty don't jibe well with buying performance parts. The money should be going towards building a clean, reliable, stock engine.

I'd second that... for the price you paid for the head work with new guides they probably just knurled the stock guides and threw the valves back in... your rebuilding shop did a 440 for a co-worker's Road Runner a long while back, they cut enough corners that it was smokin' and using oil after 20,000 miles... he took the engine over to Dick Ott... payed the extra $$$ and it was still running up to a few years ago... then the runner got sold in the divorce...

If they did a good job the chambers would have been clean...

Typically a head with new guides, seats redone, and new standard valves at a machine shop is $300... a few more $$$ if you use O/S valves, and more $$$ if they put in new seats.

the proformance parts i did not buy my brother's shop did,my mom paid for the machine work. i wanted to take my time rebuilding this engine into somthing awesome but i have no time since my marriage is over, i have untill this weekend to get this motor back together and get out. and just so you know i will be prolly living in my car. one more reason to make it run now.

so that being said.....

ps: i also lost the truck, my recording studio and 150G fish tank.

Marriage over; wow; that hurts; lost the truck, too? I thought that you bought that, to make your living with; "work truck". It's none of my buis., and I'm not asking; BUT I hope it's not just over the recent car trouble youve had to spend $$ on. My wife will b!tch about my spending the money, and will some times ask if ALL that was necessary or if I could have split up a repair into cheaper "chunks" that are easier to take but also knows that if it costs me THAT much, to get running safely down the road again, that a shop's bill for whatever I had to do would have been MUCH more costly; though I do get caught up heavily in "might as wells" when I work on my own stuff, because I HATE RE DO'S.
