It is best to think about this in terms of power and weight needed to hit a stated ET.

To get a 3000 lb car to go 14.99 will take about 175 HP at the wheels.
To run a 13.99 in the same 3000 lb car takes 225 HP.

Do you know your car's weight? How light can you get it?
The other thing to understand is that good dragstrip ETs are done from a standing start, that means low rearend gears and high converter stall speeds. These changes make for good dragstrip or "stoplight fun" but this set-up sucks on the open highway.

Free machine work will help but be sure it is done correctly.
I would do a basic performance build-up using the Enginetech cast pistons, .060 oversize. Add a balance job and a performance cam and the short block is done. There is a rundown on parts in the HRM article.

Spend all you time and money on cylinder head work as well as a good intake and a set of headers.

I have never used one on a car with a power brake booster.
Is your booster the long skinny one or the short fat type?
(I do not know how else to discribe the two types I see on A Bodies)

74 Dodge Dart Swinger is 3030 or 3055 lbs. depending on 2 or 4 door model for the 'shipping weight'. If it's an SE (Special Edition...aka luxo model) it weighs up to 3700 lbs....
