No problem. As most everyone here knows there aren't many people that work with these engines that are also employed by cam grinding companies. Comp gives suggested compression ratios for a lot of their cams along with other recommended equipment, but nothing for the slant.

I once tried a Crane Cams spring and retainer package they list for Chrysler small blocks. The retainer was kinda goofy and reduced the spring installed height by a bunch. Those things went back and I bought Comp springs and retainers which were made nicer and had a reasonable installed height.

If you want a real treat call Comp and talk to Tim Cole. He is a six cylinder Comp racer and incredibly knowledgable about doing little motors like ours. :D

the stock retainer work perfect, all you need are hardened locks that are with the engnbldr valves.

yes i have used them in all my engines with no problems,just spend your money on good harden locks,that is what will have the most pressure on them. i tried mopar`s aluminum retainer on one engine and never seen any gains.

Personally I would not use a stock spring retainer on a larger that stock diameter spring. Stock retainers (and locks) are fine for light loads and low engine speeds. With a heavier spring, more aggressive cam and higher speeds I do not trust stock retainers to stay in the spring without falling in or trust it not to split. A friend had to write off an entire engine due to a retainer failure. A set of good retainers is much cheaper than a new engine.
