Just talked with someone at Reed cam and they have the cam I am looking for. Just wondering about the oil pump gear problems some have had. Can someone remind me where the gear issue was coming from? Was it certain cams?
Reed has a 222 and a 226 duration cam available. A bit pricey but they have them.

Why spend more than you have to? Call Oregon Cam Grinding or another cam shop and have them make what works best rather than a compromise.

Oregon only has one cam between 220 and 230 and it's lift is only .440. (according to the man on the phone. The list shows more though) They are cheap that is for sure, but I really didn't want to give up that much lift. I am currently running a .518 lift and even with 1.6 rocker (which I don't own) I still wouldn't come close to the .500 mark. In the range I am looking for,Erson only has a 220 and it's lift is .465
I decided to go with a Reed cam
222/222 @50 .501 lift 110 LS with +2 ground in.(recommended lash is .016/.018) I figure I can tighten up the intake lash to .014 which will move the duration up to 224 and give me a little hotter reverse duration cam, IF I shot a little low.

How are you counting one cam between 220° duration at .050" and 230° where I count eight? I'd do something like the 791 as the intake lobe and 1416 as the exhaust lobe on 110° lobe centers. .518 lift is likely a waste with your head. How much more, if any, does that intake port flow at .500" lift than .450" or .400"?

Bren, the gear problem is not cam specific. At one time it seemed to be mainly a Mopar Performance issue, but it has happened with many brands.

So if my hardened oil gear has held up perfectly so far, could we assume that a cam change would likely be cause for NO concern?

Never assume... alway check the gear's contact pattern.
A case hardened drive gear, a well centered contact pattern and good lubracation are the things that I do to ensure success.
It was also noted that the leading edge of the cam gear should be "dressed" so it smoothly transitions into the mating drive gear.
