Midi- the slickest setup I have seen for SBP discs was a guy (who used to be on the .com site) did the conversion on his Duster to the later LBP spindles, upper control arms and calipers, but ordered a set of rotor blanks and had them machined for the small bolt pattern and had the studs pressed in. The older four-piston Kelsey-Hayes SBP disc brake setup is hard to find and expensive to repair (or so I am told). Swapping to the later system with a redrilled rotor would be much cheaper and easier, I think.

ok cool i can get blank rotors, hmm .....

i am having one hell of a time with these front brakes, they are just worn out. i'm putting in new shoes today and new wheel cylinders & hardware. but i know i will be right back into them in a month or so.

there just old crap that belongs in my scrap metal bin.

Whoah...now that's an interesting idea. I don't think I've seen this what you describe. Two questions occur to me:

1. Where are we finding rotor blanks?
2. What-all SBP factory wheels clear the later rotor hub and the later calipers?

Don't see the need for blank rotors...

Just add some holes between the LBP.

All I can say is that I saw this duster in person at one of the last Seattle SSCOA meets. It was an early 70s Duster with the single piston disc brakes but with clearly small bolt pattern wheels. The guy said that he swapped to the later A-body single piston disc brake upper controll arms, spindles, and calipers, but he ordered up some rotor blanks and had them drilled out in the 4.5 inch bolt pattern.

Wheels: he was running Centerlines, 14 or 15 inch, I don't remember. They weren't stock though. I can't say if the stock SBP whels would fit over the disc brake calipers.

Source of rotor blanks: I don't know. I never caught the source of his blanks. He told me he had to special order them and then take them to a machine shop to have the bolt pattern drilled and the studs pressed in.

Redrilling the large bolt pattern rotors for the small bolt pattern might work, but I would worry about strength. If you went that route I would at least fill the old holes with some kind of welding. Of course, then you have to balance the whole assembly....

the blanks are thru one of our vendors, Noel does not want me to give out this information. all i can say is they are located in the east side and they have a 3 letter company name. i will have action machine drill the blanks.

Redrilling rotors isn't anything new its been done plenty of times before. I've seen rotors with 3, maybe 4 patterns in one with the holes pretty close together.

If you take a 5 on 4" and redrill to 5 on 4.5" you will still have plenty of meat left. This is how my rear disc kit was done

Lots of ill-advised things have been done lots of times.

5 on 4.5" would be BBP wouldn't it? I thought SBP was 5 on 4"

Sorry, I meant to write 4 inch bolt pattern. Good catch Thor. The guy ordered rotor blanks and had them drilled to the FIVE ON FOUR inch bolt pattern.

By the way, the guy's name on the .com site was "Oldmopars" and this was on his bright yellow Duster.

Let me ask this then... whose safety protocols / tests would be acceptable to you Dan? I know adapters can be an issue, but your the first I heard mention redrilling for different bolt pattern is a safety issue.

It's not like this is a shadetree mechanic idea, companies like willwood and others offer rotor hats with 3 patterns on them with lots less meat between the holes then the pic I showed. Are they all putting their customers at risk?

Look at an OEM axle flange - theres even less distance between the outer edge of the flange and the stud holes then there are between the two holes in my rotor.
