17 cars on hand. The farthest traveler was Seymour.
Glen Terry again won the race in his 64 Dart, running a 15.82, 71.54 in the finals to beat Richard Bjorkland (aka Fopar), who ran a 15.19, 90.25.
Had a little rain on and off all afternoon, but eventually got everything in before 6:30.
A bunch of us will be running tomorrow in the Inliners/Flatheads class.

Sounds like a great event and a good turn-out.
Congrats to Fopar for getting into the final... now we just need to find a way to stop that Glen T. "machine". :?

I made it up the ladder through sheer luck, redlights, PJ's thumbs up, taking the spare tire out of the trunk, re shoe polishing numbers....and Terri starts shaking the voodoo finger at me at pre-staging and POW...the curse took me at the line...the sure grip locked up...the rear axle bucked up and down, the duster slid sideways...then it launched....that guy isn't a robot...he's some kind of witchdoctor...

I mean Fopar lost by a "fan belt"....

I think I'm gonna have to do some more test and tune just to pull my race Karma out of the water box....

Anybody got the awards/group photos to post yet? It was a good crowd, and it was a real testament to our group that had much diversity of character, a wide range of people, a broad sense of humor, but still treated each other like family. You won't find that very often in any competitive sport or interest group. I wish I could have found my Hot Rod Magazine, I wanted Seymore to autograph it!!!!

Thanks again for a great Saturday...may not make it to Woodburn in August, but have planned for both Saturday and Sunday in Medford.

Got home tonight (Monday) about 8PM putting in 3850 miles over seven days. Woodburn is a great place to race, I wish we could have made more runs. I was cloudy and cool all day an the air density never got above 1000'. Nice turnout, like Duster Idiot says, a very diverse group. Got to meet everbody from up that way except Stephanie, Josh, and MiDi. I wish it was closer so I could race there more often. Thanks to Sergio and PJ for organizing everything and Dave Mueller for feeding everybody. Fopar showed me a cot he had to make it more comfortable to sleep in the tent, maybe I will get me one and try camping next time.

There was quite a bit of rain on the way out and those big tires I put on the back didn't have much tread so there were a couple of slippy slidey moments in the mountains. The car was using oil like a pig on the way out, had to add 5 quarts. I pretty much spread it all from Minnesota to Washington as well as all over the bottom and back of the car. I have had this problem before and it gets worse when you run it at high speeds for long distances. I used two rolls of paper towels to get it clean at the track. Paul Olds was looking at my car and I told him about the high oil usage. He took on look at my breather system and said the engine looked constipated. I had sealed everything up except for the hose going to the carburetor. He said to take the cap off the fitting on the breather and hook up a hose pointed down at the road. I told him it couldn't possibly get any worse so I would try it and see what happens. Result was I added 1 quart all the way home and no more oil dripping off the car where ever I would stop. Thanks Paul.

Having cured the oil problem I really hammed it all the way home running 80MPH through Montana, Wyoming, and South Dakota. It really likes to run between 2500 and 2700 RPM. Even at those speeds I averaged 24MPG on the whole trip. I am going to do a test at a constant 60MPH to see what it will do but it is a real gas mizer with the 4 barrel and those big tires. Not only that, it turned the highest trap speed ever with the small valve low compression motor, a stout 93.47. The ET wasn't as good due to an extended bog when you shift from second to third. I will have to hook up the wide band and see if I can figure out what is happening, otherwise I will put the 350 Holley back on that never seemed to have that problem.

Too bad this country is so big that we couldn't get everybody to show up for one event. I was one of the guys that put Duster Idiot into the semi-finals. After he left with a .793 reaction time I red lighted.

Man, I fell asleep at the light...and I kept expecting Seymore to just come wailing past me...I kept looking in the rear view mirror, and waited a second before exiting to see if his car was alright....Think I owe him dinner next time for putting me one up on the ladder...Probably owe a few guys a dinner...I think I had Doug? on the next run and he red lit by .007, then proceeded to breakout by .035 seconds...I broke out and ran the fastest that day and got that round...

I'll have to use the Seymore trick and keep a case of Pepsi in the car so I don't blink on the last yellow....

I think when the economy gets better(it'll be a bit later...), we should plan for a long term goal of one 'middleground' racetrack, that everyone can try to make the event for that year...I would like to make it over to the other coast and see all the guys I haven't met directly yet.

Great Job Fopar and to all that made this the first 50 pt race of the year. Now we need more...Glenn like the Everready Battery Rabbit just keeps going and going..I hear he is headed for Kearney to take on all comers there...Get ready..you have to have a .001 light to beat him. Now get ready for the Samoa race (July 11-12) BBEEQ at Andrews and Beer Hall Friday night session at the local brewery. Two days of racing.. Check out the LINK and go to the Killer Bee website for more info. Great job to all who were at Woodburn. This is turning out to be one great race...See you at Samoa
