Ran at Woodburn, best time with roughed in timing and carb tuning 16.33... Engine doesn't feel as 'grunty' as the short stick version, also
it likes the rpm...so for a future mod, the 3.55's are going to go in lieu of 4.11's I think. As it sits, with the DCR of 8.0 it has to run Plus or I have to lose some timing it'll rattle a bit when at 44 degrees at highway cruise when using regular... I still have some timing to play with on that, and I want to see what happens with a bigger carb, the 390 holley is good, but it spends a fair amount of time with the plates open a fair bit which I think isn't quite right for the combination... Depending on how things look in the future I've also been toying with the idea of a 500 cfm Carter AVS...

So, more tuning to come, some mods to make the combination 'right', and I think the car is going to be faster than that...currently it's drag race weight with my chubby butt behind the wheel put it at 3600 lbs...

Too bad it's not like the other posts where I was waiting on the union and had all the time to 'work' on these things...

Well crap!

I was doing errands on Sunday and noticed my oil light was flickering...but it was fine when the rpm was above 1500rpm...
Decided that was a good time to hook up the oil pressure gauge and get it wired in. Oil was at full level, 10-30W Mobil standard dino oil. Driveway test results show I'm close to the bottom of the scale at idle-1500 rpm...at about 4500-5500 rpm it jumps to 25-30 psi...it's a standard Melling pump.
1) going to have to check the spring and plunger to see if it's stuck
2) might have to replace the less than 1000 miles and 1 drag race oil pump....
:(

Better work on my driveway tan for Medford...

The gear was in great shape and had a perfect pattern right down the middle for contact.... I pulled the rotor cavity open and the inner and outer rotor had scratch marks on them... I changed the oil and did some magnet probe exploration and found no particles....I pulled the bypass and
spring and found the plunger took a fair amount of coaxing to get it out...oddly the bore was nice and clean and the plunger was nice and clean with no pits....

I replaced it with another new melling unit...oil pressure seems to be residing between 50 and 75 depending on rpms...which I take as being a bit high...

Today I also swapped out the saggy 5 leaf V-8 leaf springs and swapped for a new set of 6 leaf spring...the rear is very firm...the car now has a rake to it...I think I'll have to toss an 8 1/4" rear in the back for a month and take some of the spring out of them....

Now if anyone can get me a good excuse out of my grandmother-in-law's 90 th birthday Party next week...I'd rather be racing....

Looks like she runs good 16.2 sec 1/4 time is the best using the annular veturi Holley 600cfm carb, I think if she didn't weigh 3400 lbs with my butt behind the wheel that might help too, also my last couple of runs at Medford had 'spongy' engagement on the clutch, so looks like my runner up money is for one of the 'custom' clutch discs everybody's getting (It worked fine all the way home...). Also my trip back from Medford to Salem shows that my 'true' highway mileage (99% I-5 Drive), to be 24 mpg...not bad for a fat car climbing the mountains.

Time to put some effort into the 'Beater' Valiant it's getting 'jealous'.

Sounds like great progress, DI. High 15s or low 16s is very comfortable in a daily driver Slant.

Someday I'll build a Duster for all out fuel mileage. Seem to be the most aerodynamic...
