Did all of the slant 6 engines have the choke wells in the exhaust manifold if ordered with a manual choke, even the big trucks ie: D400- D800? I was curious because some of the big trucks with v-8's and manual chokes do not have choke wells cast into them.

Yes, all slant-6 exhaust manifolds have a choke well or stove - different styles depending on the production date.

Dan, My Main Man, While you're talking about choke pockets (I don't mean to steal the topic...but), the difference between older style pockets (62) vs newer 2 barrel pockets, does this prevent the use of a newer choke in an old modified pocket?? Is there an easy way out without going to an aftermarket electric choke?? I know it's the way you recommend but I'm half way there now and don't want to think I wasted all that time grinding out the old pocket for nothing.
Thanks.
Joe

The '73+ pocket has the rear wall cut out. There's no difference for 1bbl vs. 2bbl.

I'm sure you can make it fit/work, but the electric choke solution usually works better and is a heck of a lot easier.

I've got two different exhaust manifolds, the older one has the choke pocket built right in with the exhaust flange. With the newer one, the pocket is about 3/8's to 1/2" outboard of the flange so the intake/exhaust attaching nut interfers with the choke sheet metal. Does that make sense?? Looking at both pockets there is a visible difference. Could one of these be Chinese???

'60-'65 used on style of pocket
'66-'69 used another style
'70-'72 had an open choke stove for use with a separate stainless steel cup and gasket
'73+ had a third style of pocket.

I don't think you're dealing with Chinese vs. American here, I think you're looking at two different-year manifolds.

Dan, The Chinese reference was a joke. So I'm back to your original suggestion that you put out there a long long time ago and that's just to use the aftermarket electric choke. I'm off to the corner for 5 minutes then I'll order a choke.
Thanks for the break down on choke pockets. I'll listen more carefully next time.
Thanks.
Joe
