The electric choke Dan recommends attaches directly to the carb.
The one pictured in the linked thread fits in the choke pocket of the stock exhaust manifold...

 Whoops. Been a while since I looked. I still use the factory setup with good success.

I will research the electric choke idea a little farther. Maybe that is a good reason (among others) to run DD- so there is a choke pocket. Otherwise I fab up a little box attached to exh studs to hold the 12v choke

I understand everyones concern about Clifford- However, I have talked to them a couple of times on the phone, they were a little opinionated (no suprise) but helpfull and will let me pick up at their location (10 miles).
That would save $100 but may not pay for the atty if I go postal on them.

What about throttle cable? Loop the stock one or get a 318 one?

I will get to a pik a part and see about Dakota 318 kickdown linkage.

I will call Erson and see about availability of cam.

Which T-chain is preferred? ie: brand/ supplier.

Should I plan on new head bolts? cheap insurance or not necessary?

I will talk to my local hi-perf mach shop about valve seats, shaving, etc. Should I go larger on valves? Probably not any port work at this time.

If you hadn't guessed- I am thinking I will have the intake /exh removed; so pulling the head should not take long. I need to check lash anyway. So maybe just go ahead and do it all at the same time. I know I have to get it apart, then cc chambers and measure piston to deck height, then ask for help when calculating how much to shave. I will try and get it apart the week before xmas. I need to start getting parts on order.

Thanks for the advice and opinions- it is greatly appreciated! TG.

Hi,
I ordered one of these new holley 2280 carbs a few days ago and received it today. Looks really nice and it was packaged very well. I am going to use it for my super six conversion. Dan, thanks for the tip/info!
and Terry, have lots of fun with your Challenger!

Dan, will the 2280 Holley have the same linkage connections as a Holley 1920? and will the supersix air cleaner fit on top of the 2280 with no problems?

The Carter I got with my super six set-up has seen better days

No, totally different configuration and location -- as with any slant-6 1bbl vs. 2bbl. The 2280 does have linkage configuration compatible with the Carter BBD 2bbl.

Yes.

Wow, that was a quick response. So my carter linkage from the supersix should hook up ok, along with the kickdown...

Thanks! I'm gonna order one and add it to the secret parts stash under my bed.

I have ordered and rec'd a bunch of parts- and the plan is as follows: establish a baseline for oil psi (it only had a light, now I have gauges), timing advance, compression, and if the t-chain is stretched. Then pull the head, measure cc's and deck height. Determine how much to shave, then have the machine shop put in the o/s valves with hardened exh seats, hog out the bowls, and shave a chosen amount. I have the RV15 cam, and picked up a degree wheel today at the speed shop. Napa t-chain, felpro head gasket, cork-rubber v/c gskt. aussie manifold gaskets. I have dutra duals to go on, with super six intake, and one of the new e-bay holley 2280's. Then I will figure out the throttle, kickdown, and choke linkage. I will also reroute the fuel line. I think the only things I am missing are an oil pump gasket and maybe some cam degree bushings, if I need em'. But the local speed shop should have them. I talked with an exhaust shop I have used on other projects about duals with a crossover, and probably dynomax turbos with bells at the rear bumper.

I am waiting for rainy weather to get here and confine me to the garage on weekends. (I have too many other things and honey-doos that require decent weather).Once I get the head off, I will report back with findings and look for help with compression selection. TG.

Received my Holley 2280 in the mail yesterday. Hopefully it works as nice as it looks :)

It's too bad the carb has to sit under my bed for the next little while, but at least it has some company

Terry,

If you are using an electric choke and the unheated Durtra duals, depending on your climate, it may pull off too soon during cold weather causing a temporary lean condition until the engine fully warms up. To slow pull off of the choke, this thermister will solve that problem.

I run Clifford shorties, a Holley 8001, 390 cfm 4V carburetor with electric choke and had a real bad drivability problem before fabricating a hydronic hot spot under the carburetor, and installing that thermister to slow pull-off of the choke. Living in sunny Callyfonia you may not have much of a cold weather problem. Just my $0.02.

Hello

I saw your post about your slant six '70 Challenger.
I have one also and I went all Clifford water heated manifold and headers with dual exhausts with an X pipe and a 390 Holley with an electric choke. I messed with the Holley for a while and got it to be very manageable until there is only a very very slight stumble upon acceleration. It doesn't bother me at all since everything else works great.
The bottom end and cam is stock and I had the head done with a three angle.
I still have the stock 904 with 7 1/4 rear end with (I think) 3.23 gears.
I am running an electronic ignition with a stock coil.
The reason I went Clifford is that I kept cracking the old menorah style exhaust manifolds and got tired of replacing them.
The Clifford has worked perfectly for me and I really like it. I can't speak to their customer service or products now, I bought mine almost fifteen years ago.
I bought a Bouchillon kick down and it was such a pain in the ass to install that I left it out and shift manually when I want it to accelerate quickly from a dead stop. Otherwise, I just let it shift up with the vacuum can and keep my foot out of it.
The Bouchillon mounting bracket on the corner of the casting above the pan requires you to get a very close 45 degree fitting for the cooling line and getting it to work was more trouble than I had time for.
At full acceleration this thing sounds like a tuner car or a pissed off bumblebee.
I love this car just the way it is and have NO intention of butchering it.
It will run almost all day on a tank of gas and it flies down the freeway with the gearing I have. It always starts and always runs and I have been very happy with it.
