I have a Schnider cam that will be going into ruster and instead of having the usual 2 holes drilled in the #4 Bearing Journal Like this:

It just has a groove cut into the #4 journal to get the oil to the top end of the the engine. I have never used a cam like this - Is there any thing to take into consideration with this rear journal / bearing setup?

A groove sounds like the hydraulic cam setup........

The groove is used on the hydraulic cams. Make sure they did not give you a hydro cam grind. As long as the cam is a solid lifter grind, you can use it. I add a small groove to all my cams to make sure I get enough top end oiling. If I get too much oil up top, I can always put a restrictor in the oil feed passage in the rear rocker stand.

I will be sending some specs to jerry soon, but The cam card has valve lash settings if it was a hydraulic cam it would have no lash settings on the cam card correct?

Cam grinders will often grind a solid lifter cam on a billet machined for the hydraulic type. This is nothing wrong with this unless you find that too much oil is flowing to the valve gear, this causes unnecessary drain back and could probably lower oil pressure slightly. If this is a problem do like Charlie says and restrict the flow to the rocker shaft.

Checked with jerry At the cam company - It is a solid lifter cam with a groove on the rear journal.

It will work fine in my application.

They may have just caught on to the fact that it is much more cost effective to groove the rear journal than to drill it. :D

Dosent matter to Me - I was just unfamiliar with the groove and I wanted to make sure the cam would work in The Ruster Engine.

If you put a restrictor in the oil feed, how big of a hole does it have?

I haven't had to install a restrictor, yet. But I do tap the oil passage in the rear rocker stand to accept a allen head plug with a hole drilled in it, before installing the head. I don't put much of a groove in the cam journal, but if I go too big, it is easy to limit the oil flow.
