hello fellas, my name is Emilio and I want to say Hi to every single one who make this page /forum possible.

Recently I purchase this car, it looks like if is for my grand ma, but I like it.

I'm a Mopar freak and I want to star working on this precious pice from the past.

after I went and did a light car wash to the engine, I found a bunch of oil leaks all over, from the valve cover, to may be the rear main deal, and not only oil,,but the most front water engine block worth it is corroded, and star to leak some coolant.

the other oil leak is just the power steering pump (the pump will be replaced soon).

So, I was thinking that I may just pull the hall engine out and take it to the local machine shop here in Redwood City Ca., to have the hall thing done.

I do have one big question before I get the engine done....is it workted to rebuilt the engine? it only have original, 116,000 miles on it, or should I start thinking about a 318, or better 340 V8 conversion, I know I want the 340..

please guide me in my quest.

thanks.

note: please excuse my english,,I'm from south of the border.

Welcome! :D

Like a lot of others here I have a bias towards the slant six. Anyone can do a bent eight, but a six has charter.

116K is just barely broke in for a slant, if it was me I'd just freshen it up with new seals and gaskets and call it good.

BTW, your English sounds just fine. 8)

Welcome to the site Emilio!
Yes, you can swap in a smallblock, but you will have to change some other things along with the engine. It's your car, but like many others here, I suggest that you keep the slant six in your new old car. You have a great resource here, and the performance of the slant six may surprise you.
Have fun, and come back often! :)

Welcome aboard.

My 2 bits....keep the slant.

I've owned lots of V8 cars, and they're certainly cool, but the slant is out of the norm enough to be noticed, yet enough of them were produced that parts are available and cheap.

Another vote for freshening the seals and gaskets. Chances are the slant has many miles left in it.
As to a V-8 conversion. Yes you can do it, but. Remember that the rear end, brakes, and suspension are all built to support the /6.
Keep in mind also, that we're probably just about to see another run up in fuel prices. In the long run a slant six Dart you can afford to drive, is way better than a 340 that stays in the garage.
Enjoy your Dart, the 65 Dart is a great looking car.

¡Bienvenido en el foro!

It could be that the leaks are easier and less costly to fix than they may appear. The spark plugs are surrounded by aluminum tubes which are sealed to the cylinder head with rubber O-rings. These O-rings eventually cook, break, and leak. It makes a big mess but is easy and cheap to fix with new spark plug tube seals. This is covered in the Tune-up parts and technique suggestions in this thread. The valve cover gasket also can leak, but you will need to replace it (very easy and cheap) after you do the valve adjustment. And check to make sure the oil pressure sensor (screwed into the rear of the oil pump, behind the filter) isn't leaking.

The water leak sounds like probably a water pump.

Keep the slant-6!

Great!! thanks every one, I'll keep the slant six than.

the water leaks....I notice that the main leak is coming from the freeze plug right under the intake /exhaust manifold on the engine block,,so, I'll pull off the engine any ways just to inspect the engine completely and replace avery single seal/gasket/freeze plugs.

the fuel consumption is great,,it is around 25miles per gallon.
this will be my commute car, I travel around 50 miles of hig way each way so a total of 100 miles round trip in the Bay area from Redwood City to Berkeley Ca., so I really like this car,,and like I said earlier, the car looks great...it make me feel like one of the blues brothers wen I drive that thing...he,ha.

thanks every one again.

Hello Fellas, sorry for been absent.

Just wanna share the love with this Slant 6 forum.

I still havent fix anything in the car, ha,ha,ha,, many projects.

the engine still leaking little cooling from that one front side freeze plug, oil from the distribuitor seal, and as I drive some times releases white fumes,,like if is taking off to the sky!!!!

ho well, I just keep up the Oil level, and the car runs really good.

I may go to the right section for wheel convertion to the biggger bolt patern, I have 13" wheels, and I think that they are stock with the stock hub caps on it, it looks great,,classic,,,but I want to put the Rally wheels with the bigger bolt patern, any sugestions will be welcome.

asta la vista.

I would just find you a set of 14 inch small bolt patten rallys and put them on then you can run 195 75R14 or even 205s. If you are up grading the brakes then switch bolt patterns or just use the sbp K-H dics. Remember you will need to swap the rear out to LBP if you change the front so you only need 1 spare tire.

Hello Señor 66aCUDA, thanks very much for the suport, and yes, I will be very happy if I find the small bolt patern Rallyes, I want to keep the 65 Dart stock with the breaks it has.

205/65/14, will be ideal for me.
