Okay, I was wondering what the designation A-body, F-body, and other bodies indicate, because when looking at parts I'm never sure which mine is. Please tell me what each one is, I'm very curious. I probably should already know this.... oh well.

I was always told that the Imperials, Crowns, ETC, fell under the C body class. The only D body stuff I am familiar with is TRUCKS. (2wd). The 4X4's (to '93) were W's and the vans are still called "B-vans". The Ramcharger added an A to the D or W... the 2wd Ramchargers are AD models, the 4X4's are AW's. And the old Plymouth vans to '83 were PB, instead of just a B for the Dodge version.

The D-body is the full frame battleship cars (you know the 20' wheelbase type weighing in at 5000lbs)made from 1960-1966. It only lasted a very short time as the evolution of the Imperial went to the unit body like all 'C' bodies AW and AD are late denominations for the Trucks, similar to D-100's, D-150's, etc.... if this were true then an A-100 would be an 'A' body not an A-van.

If you notice in many publications there's a 'space' missing for the 'D' designation and in the C-body list the 1960-1966 Imperial is not included. This class of car was strictly built for luxury, was huge and only interchanged the rear gearing (8 3/4"), engine, and transmission with other mopars everything else is very unique (ever change the ujoints in a 10' long two part driveshaft?...how about that 4 layers of 20 gauge metal in the hood...)

FYI, been there took one to a demo derby...they are so well built only a similar era Lincoln can go toe to toe with it (funny how the designer of the Lincoln also designed the 'forward' look Imperial too...)
