I have removed the instrument panel from one of my 63 Valiants in preparation for having the plastic parts, including the radio, heater controls and pushbutton face plates re-chromed. Dose anyone have a recommended source. There seems to be several on the internet, but I would appriciate some suggestions based on actual user experience. Thanx for your help. RMDV.

I got my dash parts from Mr. G's in Fort Worth. I brought mine in and they gave me the choice of swapping for one of theirs, or having mine rechromed. I opted to take one of the two they had in stock, since it was about the same condition as mine and I could get them the same day.

The quality of their work depends a lot on the condition of your part. They can work out small nicks and scratches, but if you have large gouges, they might show up. They buff out scratches in the lenses and if they are deep, you could see some distortion.

I'm satisfied with their work and after two years on my convertible in the Texas sun, the parts look as good as the day I installed them.

I've been looking for either a kit or some sort of liquid chrome that could be used in an airbrush. With so many plastic model painting supplies (and experience), I'd much prefer to take care of the plastic work myself. Mostly cause it's fun for me anyway...

Jopapa get yourself down to a hobby shop that specializes in model airplains or high end model cars. Have seen rechroming kits made for this application and sounds like it would fit your requirements. Also being a avid model train buff am always on the lookout for the unusual that can be used on the Dart when I frequent the hobby shop, matter of fact just saw a advertisement for a plastichrome kit from a east coast hobby supplier thought around $80.00 and can postivitly state there are some airbrusable chrome finishes available. As usual why bring the magazine with me...Dave

I believe Caswell and/or Eastwood sells a chrome plate brush kit for small jobs such as interior trim that is relatively inexpensive.

Bit of an update:

While looking at the local hobby shop, I found an actual liquid chrome plating made for airbrushing, instead of paint + metalizer + sealer + clearcoat. I talked to one of the model train buffs there and he said it works great if you spray it in several light, even coats (pretty much a given with me. That's how I always airbrush). It's expensive though. About $9.00 for what looked to be a 3/4oz. bottle.

I'll do a short write-up as I'm doing it so that anyone else who wants to take the DIY route has something to go by.

You've outdone yourself, that site could be dangerous to one with idle hands and thrashed dash..Ask yourself the cost of shipping the item to a plater and the disgrunteled shipping company miss directing your "it took me three years to find it" part to Baghdad and then the actual cost of a plating service and then its returned after 6 months because they won't do a small batch until x-number of jobs are saved up when you add all this in, makes sense to find a way to do it oneself...Keep us posted..Dave (disclaimer: no insult intended to you customer oriented shops out there)
