1975 Dart. After about an hour of Northwest RAIN, the wiper linkage bushings get really warm and start sqweeking constantly. The plastic bushings are aftermarket, I've used several different brands, all sqweek when warm. I used a lubricant, Dow Corning DC-4 silicone lube on them when assembling, but afer a while, the sqweek is back. I don't use a petroleum base lube for fear of breaking down the plastic (nylon??). I'm not sure the LPS line of lubes would be ok on the plastic either. The factory manual doesn't seem to call out a lube. Does anyone have any suggestions?

White grease.

My experience with silicone lubricant is that it doesn’t last very long, doesn’t like dust, doesn’t like dampness, makes hanging onto tools miserable, and you can’t paint anything contaminated with the slightest amount of the stuff. I still have a can of it on the shelf just to remind my self why I don’t like it…

I use white grease for door hinges, hood latches & hinges, trunk spring slides, shift linkages under the car, wiper bushings, and speedometer cables. It is almost unaffected by freeze-thaw, moisture, and dust contamination. Only drawback is it is kind of messy.

I have some "white grease". I think it's lithium base. Maybe I'll try some on one bushing, then put some of Reed's peanut butter on the other, and see which one lasts longest! The peanut butter should help disguise that Northwest musty old car smell!

Let me know how it works out. The wiper linkage bushings in my Dodge van are also squeaking, and if white grease works, I'll be putting some in.

Before I put the 'nub' into the bushing I take a moment out to put a q-tip dab of white grease or very light oil in there that way things "move" and you don't end up wallowing out the bushing before it's time.

Yup, White Grease is lithium grease, get mine at Wal-Mart. I used it on my wiper drive train a few years ago when I had the interior & dash ripped apart, no squeaks yet.

After many wiper bushing replacements, I have come to the conclusion, the OEM factory parts are the best. And they come with a dab of lube in them.

Yeh, the last ones I was able to get several years ago came with the grease, but it was un-marked as to what type of grease it actually was. That's why I was fishin'.
