I have a Tach gauge I bought awhile back and just haven't ever installed it in the car. I think this gives me good reason to go ahead and put that in, so I'll get that installed. Hopefully tomorrow I can get this thing all set right, or nearly so and be ready to drive to work ..just in the nick.

It sound like your pretty close now. It might be fine as it is.....driving it for a week or so will provide enough testing to see if it is right on or not. I wouldn't bend it any more for now till you get it out and do some shopping to see how it responds.

Well I have good news and a little bad. I went over my friends and he installed my Tach gauge. While there he used his hand-held tach to dial in the idle. Now my car is cranking up and eventually landing down into a nice low curb idle. So for now everything is pretty swell, although adjustments here and there may be in order ..as I drive some.

The bad news is my Tach gauge that I got installed is faulty. It operates just fine when I'm driving, but oddly it doesn't read correctly when I'm in park/neutral (curb idle). It always shows idle in park at about 1000RPM, we know this isn't right because the hand-held tach told us so when we used it to set the idle. Funny thing is how it's fine when I'm actually driving ( it's about 2500-2700 RPM at 60mph) I don't know if it's a grounding prob or what but I guess it's going to have to be taken out ..sigh.

Oh well. Thanks to everyone again for helping to get me going, it was educational too.

BTW- If anyone knows where I can get a Hot Air STOVE BOX for my car please let know. I have an air cleaner and there's a place on it's snorkel underside to connect a hose which in turn would go to a Stove box, (for the carb to get warm air for these colder days). My car doesn't have the "box" but I've been told that If I can find one then I can put it on my car. I can't find one so far, if anyone has a clue where I might get one ..do let me know.

By any chance is the tachometer set at the “Four Cylinderâ€￾ setting?

What size tires & rear gear ratio dose your car have? With that info one can calculate rpm at a given mph.

It is printed on the side of the tires. If the tires are close to stock, the side should read something like "P195 75R14." That means "P"assenger car tire (has to do with construction of the tire and load rating), "195" millimeter wide tread, sidewall is "75"% as wide as the tread, and the tires are made for a "14" inch diameter rim. Just go out and look close at your tires. It might help to take a pencil and sheet of paper and make a rubbing.

This tire vender has a mountain of information on tires here, such as what all the numbers mean one will find on a tire’s sidewall.

I use The Tire Rack often as a reference, and occasionally purchase a set of tires from them.
