The under dash vents have probably been unused for about 20 years now, but with the heatwave that So Cal is experiencing I'm using them....

The other day I was cruising at about 70 - windows down - stereo blasting.. when a huge handfull of leaves, twigs and dead bugs comes firing out of the vent box like it had been shot out of a canon.

Now... I was wearing shorts - and we all know that the vent blows in just the right way to shoot that nice breeze right up there to keep a body cool.

The only thing I could do was start laughing.

Question: will it be efective if I rig up some cardboard scoops for the inside of the car and use the blower attachment on my compressor and shoot air down the intake by the hood to get the rest of the leaves and stuff out of the system?

Thanks

Joe

Sounds like you did just fine! let that be a lesson "no shorts until vents are cleaned" at least it didn't blast you with sand in the face and rip the headliner out! By all means blow it out, but first tape a 13ga kitchen plastic bag to the vent opening to contain the nasty/unknown. Finish by spraying a healthy dose of Lysol in the vents and with heater running spray the cowel vents too until you have that fresh spring scent present throughout the compartment......Dave

After my '74 Dart Sport had been in our shop a few weeks, we pulled the engine and started stripping the fire wall of everything. We wanted everything out of the way for a good sand blasting, so we pulled the A/C from inside to get rid of the hoses and connections. I was about to reach up into the fresh air opening under the dash to see if I could get to the debris that had fallen into the cowling (the answer is NO). I happened to look down at the A/C unit on the floor and saw a couple of wasps crawling around on top of the vent damper door. Fortunately, it was in January and the cold weather slowed them down. Needless to say, I did not reach my bare hand up there.

My wife is looking forward to the day when she can ride in my car and not get crap (snow/fuzz/dandruff) on her from the seats or leaves from the vents.

I say, the leaves mean it's working.

Someday we will live her dream and once again use the Valiant to carpool to work. Oh wait, that’s my dream.

John

One more reason to clean them is you don't want moist organic matter collecting and rotting out the metal. Killin5 now how you feel, espically enjoyed the crumbled seat foam cloud that permeated everything, even after redoing the uhpolestry, still have traces I can't seem to get rid of-maybe replacing carpet will help....Dave

I was traveling down a dayly driven hyway at night. Suddenly a shimmering cloud expanded in front of me, it was glistening like nothing I had ever seen before , an aurora of brilliance. I thought of God, I thought of flashbacks? I even thought of alien encounters. Just as suddenly it vanished. I took a deep breath and willed it to the back of my mind and went on with life till two months later on the same road during the day time in hotter weather I opened the sliding vent door on the heater and out came a blizzard of fiber glass fibers, I was covered head to toe! I pulled over! thinking I was a victim of a practical Joke of the worst kind! Then as I recovered I suddenly remembered that "cool night", months before, the encounter, the wonder, " The sucking up of something that fell off a truck"! Bruce Johnson
