Thinking of blocking off the pump, and getting a red electric holley fuel pump? Anyone had any problems?
And does it matter what kind of carb I get say going from a 1bbl to 4bbl? I won't have any fuel starvation problems?
And easy install? no wiring into the ignition?

cheers

You'll want a relay and oil pressure switch wired into the pump power to cut power to the pump when the engine isn't running.

Personally, I think the Holley red pumps are overrated and over priced. Had 2 of them die on me after less than a year's use and they only have a 90 day warranty.

Why do you want to do this?

Holley pumps of this type are loud! Unless you have need for more fuel volume than the stock pump can provide I would use the stock pump. If you want an electric pump on a street car I would use something else.

Just crossed my mind sparked an interest in what would need to be done and how to do it. Thanks guys. And no I won't be doing it unless my fuel pump breaks.

See this post for some relevant discussion.

I've got a Holley Red pump mounted under the trunk for my fuel cell.

The pump is louder than the rest of the car. At the dragstrip. Wide open.

To see if you can live with it, just fire up your weedeater, stick the spinny fish line end out the window, Duct tape the throttle on the weedeater wide open, and go for a drive. Leave the weedeater on your back seat.
The pump makes the same noise whether the engine is running or not.

Not to hijack the thread, but where can you get a good non chinese/non remanufactured mechanical fuel pump?

I was wondering the same thing, since it seems like a prime reason to contemplate a new electric pump.... Given that the car's first pump lasted several decades, and the NAPA replacement lasted only a half a dozen years, I, too, would welcome a better answer.

PS. While we're at it, where can you buy good quality *anything* these days? Distributor caps, brake pads, pumps, you name it... No wait, that's a hijack. ;) Let's start a new thread, if anyone actually has any of those answers.

Most often the diaphragm ruptures causing fuel pump to fail. This weakening was a much slower process when we were using pure gasoline.

Now we are suffering from government mandated dilution of motor fuel with alcohol. The alcohol rapidly degrades the soft material a diaphragm is made of. Until an alcohol resistant diaphragm is used, pumps won’t last long. Same goes for soft fuel lines. One has to use the latest fuel injection hose; SAE30R9.
