Got a 72 B-300/6
Engine runs rough with no power.
Got approximately 1 115-120
2 115-120
3 85 -85
4 115-120
5 105-115
6 115-120

after 3 or 4 revolutions with throttle and choke open.

engine burns no oil and does not smoke. I have a point system and am checking it out now. Carburetor is a one bbl 1920 (i think)

QUESTION with these comp numbers, should i be looking at a rebuild or just a good vlv job. Engine was rebuilt several yrs ago but details and components unknown. Have had to replace a couple of valves in the past as they were deformed and burnt.

thanks in advance

Check valve lash on cylinder #3 first. If that's good, it looks like a valve on #3 is your problem.

Your numbers are dry-wet, correct?

thanks cj
yep, checked lash today and found no tight valves. Adjusted all intake and exh

what do you pros use to determine if rings need replacing?
I have placed oil in the cylinders and the effect was small during comp testing

Will check dry and wet tomorrow and post. How much diff would indicate rings? Or, how much diff should there be?

The compression check number would be a night and day difference (I've seen a 10psi cylinder go to 45 on the wet check...LOL)...

The next step would be a leakdown test that would determine if it was cylinder/valves/gasket (all of the above).

forgot to mention oil pressure is 50-60 lbs at warm idle.
will also do leak down tomorrow as well as wet comp, that should tell me whats wrong i guess.
