Any information will be greatly appreciated, and part numbers too

I have a stock head on my slant, the last missing piece to make this motor come alive. I have a .436 lift cam, 4bbl offy intake with a 390 cfm holley. Stock sizes on the head 1.62/1.36.

What I wanna do is send it out to the head shop and get the head milled .060, have it pocket ported and polished, bowls blended, 3 angle with hardened seats installed. I want 11/32" bowtie valve guides, 11/32" valves. Dont wanna get too radical off baseline but I'm looking at maybe putting stock OR 1.75/1.40.

I already have the Manley valve guide part number (great place to start eh?)
Looking at putting stainless 11/32" valves for better airflow and head design.

All opinions, comments, and .02 cents welcome. Be as brutal as you want.

too bad, the reason I asked was I just had one done up here with sb ford and sb chev valves and I happen to have another mildly ported head with stock valves and .060 already milled off ,it that won't work with the stroker engine I'm building

Torrance, i'm in Lawndale. Have you checked with Valios on MB blvd. just west of Hawthorne blvd? They did a good stock job for me and can do more advanced work . Theres a second one near Downtown. Would have to look his info up. Think he's off MLK and the harbor frwy that all the magazines use for their head work....Dave

GT63....we are neighbors wow. Yes I had Vellios do the head way back when completely stock. Now its time for modified competition. Vellios is good for one thing....stock....thats it. They have a good crank polishing setup Rumor has it they had a kid JB weld a cylinder and hone it. Harry and Devon are cool machinists. but.......nah.

What kinda ride ya got?

Seen me running around?

Those two are good, Watch out for the other guys and under no circumstances let them near your block, unless you want to pay a competent shop to correct their mistakes. Got some firsthand horror stories about that place. Must admit did a good stock job on the heads, but would only let the Harry do the work. Will get you the name and address of the place in LA when I get off duty and have access to the materials. How I have missed your beast is beyond me, definitely gets your attention as for myself got a 63 GT Dart brown in color That looks dead stock down to the soon to be replaced 13 wheels. As for that JB weld cylinder job, my brother-in-law had two cylinder walls fail on his GTO equiped 389 3 months after they rebuilt and sleeved it. Gives on something to think about...Dave

Called up BPE...Steve seems to be very knowledgable with the slants. As for Cylinder head Specialists, they went out of business and California Head Specialties took over, he doesnt seem to know much about anything except stock applications, he evens sends out the porting work to another place. So far BPE might be getting it. Thanks for the help dave

Pete

Did you review their price list? They have a stage I,II,III porting option. Thought the prices reasonable. BTW their stage II is 75 bucks more then the basic stock job Vallios did!

I'm picking up my head tommorow to blend in after the seats. I'll get the part #s for the valves and the springs, the last head I had them do used EGGE valves as in the slant sickness artical, this time I saved a little and got slightly larger valves, as for the other head shipping really cuts in to what I can get for it, I think the best advice I can give is learn to port, then plan to spend about $ 550 for the machining, valves, seats guides, springs, retainers, locks. I should mention that this engine is planed to be a 170 with a 198 crank and pistons with a 3.5" bore. but for everyone who hits on this post; 40 hours of porting and $500 to $600 into the head is the best time/money spent on this "Economy" mill. It was never intended to be a race engine but getting the head ready for the cam and a 600 cfm carb will raise allot of questions 8) Bruce J.
