After a few years of fooling with Vw diesels, I managed to blow my 1,6 turbodiesel so bad that I'm selling all my Vw stuff. This engine had ~230hp at crank, best at quarter was 14,5/166kmh. It was my other daily driver at summer time. It was installed inMk1 Scirocco, the only Scirocco I've ever seen  The best time was slow, but what can you expect from fwd with skinny street tires  Speed was much better 8)

I dig the Valiant out from barn, where it have been last year or so. It needs new interior, so I've started to look stuff there. Already bought a new medium blue carpet and I'll use Aspen RT front bench. I've been emailed to http://www.onlineupholsteryandmore.com/ we'll see if they'll make new seat covers for me. Price is not bad. I also have a '66 Barracuda dashboard I'm going to use.
For engine, I decided to go 225. It'll be a daily driver, so more torque is more than welcome.

Just ordered Spec Stage 3+ clutch. It should handle 580lb. ft :) Wasn´t the cheapest and I'll have to rebore bolt pattern, but should be streetable.

Also cleaned a couple freebie 225 blocks. Came out nice and clean. Too bad I can´t use either of these blocks. Other is already bored too big. Other is in std size, but there is a piece missing of one cylinder :( Called this guy and I´ll get his spare block, he doesn't live that far away.

Received the clutch last week. Looks nice, it´s 240mm diameter. Also test fitted Mercedes 4-piston calibers at front. Needed minor trimming, still have to make adapters.

I's been looooonng time, but Valiant is registered and been driven about 2 months now 8) I have built Audi 80 quattro turbodiesel for winter fun, and I've been restoring mySport Satellite too.

When snow started to melt at spring, I took Satellite to my friends bodyshop. Now it was time to get Valiant out from barn. I had to remove engine from Satellite before bodyshop, so "unfortunately" 318 found it's new home from Valiant. Had to buy sb engine mounts and A833 bellhousing. Also found out the hard way that early-V8 had same size flywheel than slant six. Newer 10,5" fw did fit in bellhousing, but starter did not fit. Luckily I had the Spec clutch I bought for turbo engine, just had to drill one hole to fit slant fw to v8 crank.
V8 is only temporary, slant will come back. Turbo-fever is now badly rising, my friend keeps asking all the time when turbo-slant is running. He has a Mercedes 190 2,8 turbo and about 600hp, what a coool ride 8)

At this moment, I´m changing the 66 Barracuda dash and painting interior. Will use cudas variable speed wipers instead of original 1-speed.

Current specs of Valiant:
318 4-barrel with some compression and cam, ran 15,1/92mph. A833, Spec stage 3+ clutch, 8 1/4 rear with 3.55 and suregrip. Front end has 1 1/8" sway bar, adjustable solid strut rods, MP 0.92" torsionbars, 11/16 tierods, boxed LCAs and k-member. Leaf springs are Hotchkis and shocks Kyb gas-a-just. At front 11,75" rotors with Mercedes calibers, rear has still stock 10" drums. Steering box is stock and worn manual box. I´m thinking if I go with fast ratio manual, or power steering. Steering is so heavy even now with slow ratio, I can't imagine what it would be with 16:1 ratio.

Lots of pictures here:

Interior is almost ready, couple details still missing. Like where is cigarette lighter in 66 Barracuda?

Also painted front wheels white, looks better than black wheels :)

Something little with slant too. We flowed stock head and my ported head at my friends flowbench. Still waiting for results, but didn't look too bad :)

Slow progress with new engine. Block is hot tanked and cleaned, oil passages drilled and rounded and filled ~1,5" with block filler. Parts are coming home too, JP timing set, Doc's oil pump ARP studs etc. I still need to decide what kind of cam and turbo to use... Oh yeah, it's stroker 170.

Weighed stock rod and piston to compare with new ones. 1436gr and 1142gr

I got winter tires mounted yesterday, I can still drive it in snow now. With summer tires, it was literally impossible. With Nokian Hakkapeliittas, no problem :D

MJF,

If your are up for it you can Smooth out the oil pump pocket muuuuch more than that for better flow and less restrictions/sharp angles.

Here's what I did:

Here on the pump (scroll Down)

And Here for on the block (again... scroll down)

Good Luck!

Greg

Thanks for pics Greg. Picture does not show it right, but I guess it could need some more grinding. :) I still need to do stand pipes for lifter gallery. Is the large hole in front of block to first lifter gallery for timing chain oiling? Do I need to do something for that hole? I can't see any benefit of stand pipe in first gallery since that hole is in bottom :?:

Hakkapeliittas made a difference like night and day, even though my new summer tires had m+s markings 8)

Matti
