Visited at Ilpo's garage today. Got balanced 198 crank, gasket sets and copper o-rings for headgasket. We tried to look specs for their custom grind cam, but could not find :( He remembered that it was around 290 degrees and 0.455 lift. I have to call that guy who did it, I would like to try similar...

Here is that crank in action, it is already familiar with boost

Bought throttle bodies from BMW M3 3.2. I'm not sure how these will fit to side draft manifold, but we'll see when I receice it :)

Some updates. Sent one cam to regrinder, we were thinking of ~230 intake and ~225 exhaust with 110 lobe separation. He will look what profiles he has.

Block is almost ready, we milled it straight and made o-ring grooves. Block had nice and smooth finishing before

Ooo, I like the M3 throttle body idea! Are those injector holes/bungs in those TBs already?? If so, that would be easier than setting up a side-draft manifold for those.

Thanks,
Lou

Yep, throttle bodies have injector bungs, no need to make those to manifold. I have to figure how to mount these, not bolt on anything but BMW... Injectors are 630cc@3bar, should be big enough for pump gas. E85 needs bigger.

Cool. I will look into that. My initial IR intake plan was to drill/weld bosses in intake runners and use the gummed up Weber carbs as TBs only. Just pull guts out of the Webers... BMW TBs could be easier, but not sure with linkage/mounting mods needed.

Nothing a Little Fabricating can't fix!

Keep up the good work!

Great Project!

Thanks Greg :)

Linkage modification does not seem to be difficult, just extend between pairs. There is more work to fit manifold, but I believe it is doable. Just little fabrication :) These are a little big (50mm), maybe it would be better with smaller ones? There is plenty 4 cylinder tb:s at german ebay, probably could find better size if could find 2 similar sets.

Got my cam back from grinder today, it's 236in/230ex@.040" (1mm). It's a little low lift, (.43/.425) but maybe I could find 1,6 rockers in some day...

If in good shape, they are very tough - more than a regular U-joint.

I was a little nervous if my 8 1/4 rear would handle all the power of 170  I've been looking local forums if there were 8 3/4 rears for sale, and I found one in wednesday. LBP, 742 case, 3.23 gears, suregrip, 11"x2" brakes and narrowed to fit A-body. I bought it in phone and put 8 1/4 for sale. It took 1 hour to sell the rear, these are rare in Finland 8) Old one leaved at saturday and I picked new yesterday. I took the drums and checked brakes. I need new brake shoes, cylinders are in good shape. Also checked oil, its clear. 11"x2" brakes looks pretty rare, are these used in C-bodies?

Wow, that is amazing you could find that axle (and sell yours) over there. Power of the internet...

Slant on,

Lou

Got my lazyazz off the sofa and went to garage for couple days. Cleaned block, installed cam bearings&cam, crank and timing set. Need to file a few piston rings before installing pistons.

Wow, I have started this thread 8 years ago and engine is still not finished :D Valiant has been super-reliable, nothing but add fuel and oil changes.

A lot has happened after last update, but nothing to engine project. Found my girlfriend, got married last august, new home etc. With cars I have fought mostly with my dailydriver 2001 Audi A6 TDI, strange fueling problem... My Sport Satellite is painted and waiting for assembly. But now I´m very intrested to continue turbo-build, just when I have time to go garage.

I sold M3 throttle bodies, too much work to fit to manifold. Last summer I talked to some racers at drag days and Suzuki GSXR 1000 throttle bodies should be easy to fit, these are with hose adaption. Looking for 2 sets of these.
