5 quarts oil in - Check
Antifreeze in - Check
ATF in - Check
5 Gallon of fuel in - Check
Spark plugs out - Check
Crank engine till oil pressure come up - Check
Crank engine some more - No fuel to carb - not a check
Crank engine some more and more - No fuel to carb.

Ok, good used fuel pump is crappola! New one laying on work bench. Good news with all the fluids in and cranking on it, I didn't have anything run out n the floor and I have 35# oil pressure just turning it over. Once I get fuel then comes the spark!

Rick
Fingers crossed!

Cranking speed may not be enough to initially get fuel flowing

Fill the fuel bowl and start the engine.

If it dies out, the fuel pump is definitely bad........

Really? I didn't know that. I though it would gravity feed up to the Fuel pump.

Thanks, Rick

The fuel strainer in the tank could be clogged too.

Initially the fuel line from the tank to the pump will be dry, and the fuel has to go up from the bottom of the tank to the fitting on the upper side of the tank, before dropping back down under the car.

This is when cranking speed may not be able to pull the fuel out (fuel line full of air)

Well, I have a fuel cell in the trunk, and it feeds out the bottom so that shouldn't be a problem. But I will try and fill the fuel bowl and see if I can get it to fire.

Try putting a little fuel down carb.Have someone crank car and if it fires put your hand over top of carb to make pump pull harder.basically primeing the fuel system,VROOM,you will bee running in the next go round.Mark

You can always run a mechanical fuel pump inlet into a 8oz can of gas.. you can run it for a bit on that..

I ran ruster on a 2 gal fuel can under the hood around the shop and yard for almost a year until I got a fuel cell and lines for it.

Ok I got fuel and it did try to start. I think I am 1 tooth off. But I have a problem with the ignition. It will not start off of the switch. It will crank but while it is cranking I have no power to the blue coil wire. If I turn the switch on and then jump across the starter relay it starts. I think this has something to do with the ballast resistor wiring? That sticks in my head.

Anyway, I have the ballast gone, and I am running an HEI module and Blaster coil.

Got to go work on Denny's car but I'll be back later to check my post.

Thanks for your help.

Rick

Open headers in the garage!! Boy it was loud, just for 2 or 3 seconds!
:D :D

Wife came running out of the house too! I think she is excited!

Brown wire from original ballast was not hooked to the blue wire. Spliced it in and it works fine.

Had it running for a just a couple minutes and something isn't right yet. Will do some more checking and report back.

I'm so glad to here noise and smell fumes in the garage it is hard to believe. After messing around off and on for two weeks (Which is chronicled in the other thread below) It is now up and running. It started right up after fixing the vacuum leak at the intake. I had to quit for the day, cause my old back is killing me from leaning over the fender, but it is a good kind of a hurt! :D :D Monday I'll swap back to my HEI and MSD and break the cam in. With as much cranking as I have done on this it may already be broken in.

Thanks to everyone for their help and encouragement!! :)
