So I'm sick of my Dart Wagon's points ignition. I want to swap to Electronic, but I don't really feel like retrofitting Pertronix goodies into a worn out old points distributor. I don't want to run a used electronic junkyard distributor, or mess with one from a parts counter that has been remanufactured. It's been my experience that shops around here want about as much money to rebuild a distributor as a brand new one costs.

I've seen Mallory has distributors listed in their pdf. file catalog for slant 6's, but none of the online speedshops list 'em. Could I still order one from places like Summit, PAW and Jegs?

I figure spending the $ now for a quality distributor and MSD box will put me ahead in the long run when I scavenge a 3.8 Batch Fire Mass-Air motor for its goodies.

I don't know about Mallory's avail, try calling Summit they usually carry everything... how about a stock replacement unit, new from the dealer? then you could trigger the MSD with very good reliability... I have the pertronix triggering my MSD but am going to a stock electronic to do it, it'll be tighter...

Why not buy an MSD distributor and mate it with an MSD 6a box and a set of 8.5 mm plug wires and finish it with an MSD coil. I did that on my CJ and it runs strong and never misses a beat. Brought it all from JEG's. Great service and on time shipping. $249 for the distr, $200 for the MSD6a box $60 for the plugs and a few more for the coil.

$249? Did it have any special features?
$40 + $15core for a vacuum advance magnetic pickup distributor at kragen.

By the way, according to the instruction booklet that came with my msd 6a, you can use a points distributor as the trigger. IIRC, it mentioned something about that when using points to trigger the msd box, the condition of the points and adjustments aren't as critical as in the original points ignition setup because the msd box will only use the points as a low current switch

hey you! 6th Street? MSD makes a timing computor for less than what that Mallory distributor would cost. Just remove the weights and springs from a stock electronic ditributor and "lock it out" with a welder. Mount the "box" on the dash and find Your custom curve on the fly with just a small screw driver applyed to three settings . It also has a start retard and a place to plug in retard modules (supplyed) for an RPM switch, nitrous relay or manual if you get some bad gasoline, Just a substantuated thought. be cool, Bruce Johnson

You can use Bruce's idea of the MSD box, and look for an early 80's 'Lean Burn' distributor. I have one out of an 81 ram, it just has a shaft and the reluctor and pickup, no weights, no advance mechanism, no vacuum pod (just a block off plate).

It's a weird lookin' peice. Probably cost a whole $10 at the yard, and another $20 for a new pick up and reluctor...then another $249 for the MSD...
