First...thanks to all..for the previous help with the alt wire diagram.....
I have power to both fields...even thru the volt regulator....BUT...I have
power output.....in the 10 ga. wire. So...Does anyone...know where the 10 gage wire goes..and once goin into the firewall...to where it goes (or then) where it comes out.....I understand..it eventually connects to the battery...but is this direct?? or is there a needed fusible link??
It is in truck...
EVERYTHING WORKS WELL....EXCEPT THIS 'CHARGING' PROBLEM.

thanks again for any help.

The 10ga wire runs to the bulkhead connector, up to the amp gauge, back to the bulkhead connector and then to the starter relay on the firewall. From the starter relay, a wire runs down to the starter solenoid and from there another wire continues on to the positive terminal of the battery. Another wire runs back thru the bulkhead connector to the fuse panel and from there the power is distributed thru out the vechicle.

Depending on the year of the vehicle, there may be a fuseable link in the 10ga wire. This is either good or bad. Once again, depending on the year of the vehicle, the amp gauge may die and not pass any current.

With either of these conditions, the vehicle will start and run, but the battery will not charge. Another possibility is that the voltage regulator may not be grounded or it just may be bad.

Have you had the alternator checked? Most auto part stores will do this for free. Does the battery hold a charge? Once again most auto parts stores can test this for free.

I have...had the alt checked...puts out 60 - 65 amps... the battery is in fine shape...new and in good order.
I will try to run down the wires you mentioned...the alternator does work....shows discharge at the use of anything....lights...heater...brake..turn etc etc...so, guessing by what you have laid out...I will look to the fusabile link....I was unaware that if the link did not work...neither would the charge.

Thanks again!!
