I've always had a problem on my 65 valiant, when hitting pedal too fast/hard the linkage pops off under the dash. The rod from the pedal pops off the ball. Well tonight did it again as i was putting into reverse to get out of a parking spot normally, pedal popped off and i noticed the clip has broke.

Luckily i had a ziptie and i was able to make it home, i can only go about 45/50 max before I'm afraid the ziptie is maxed out and about to pop itself. Where would i be able to get another clip? And is there a special way to adjust it so it never falls off in the first place? I noticed if i were to floor it, the bend in the rod would hit the floor and cause to pop off, but it would also happen if it was punched real quick.

You can tell this board has a reputation for instant answers when the original poster of a question posts a "No help...?" followup on the same day as the first post.

Replace the ball joint rod end at the top of the accelerator pedal riser rod inside the car. Just pop the socket off the forward rod bellcrank ball, unscrew the old rod end, and replace with a new one that has the correct size thread and ball. Dorman has a selection. So does McMaster-Carr.

Here is what i pulled off, ball is ground down a bit, and will need to be drilled out to removefremove from bracket. Happen to know the correct thread off the top of your head?

Yeah, if the ball's undersize from wear then it might want replacement by drilling out, but I'd start by snapping on a new ball joint rod end and see how securely it fits. Maybe the ball just has a wear polish on it.

Don't know the thread size off hand; the nearest hardware store should provide enough bolts for a quick check. Maybe ¼"-28?

Local hardware stores are going the way of generic auto parts shops. Fewer items in stock, counter help that is totally clueless, etc.etc.

You might have getter luck going right to McMaster Carr, Graingers or Fastenall online.

Or convert it to a later model Mopar linkage or a cable setup from LOKAR or someplace similar,

Good luck!

I went to ace and a few autoparts stores. Found nothing local... a guy did bring me a ball and socket joint but was too short.

What i ended up doing was stole the clip from under the hood and switched it out with the broken one (underhood has little to no miss alignment and clip will hold it in fine.) Used the good clip at the pedal, but there is still a problem. If i set it so i get full throttle(short) it will pop off with only a inch of movement. If i set the linkage long it doesn't pop off as easily but i won't get very much throttle... very confused. The ball is worn, but isn't insanely loose in the socket. Ill have to have very minimal throttle untill i can find the correct part. I would prefer a non disconect item since ill be drilling out original ball and can screw onto rod first then bolt to bracket. I would never hsve to worry about popping off again. But trying to find a correct length shank in 1/4-28... that will be a hunt.

+1 ^^
swapping over to the cable linkage was one of the best improvements I did to my car and later to my sister's car...I did a later mopar setup on mine and used a lokar on hers as the yards didnt have what I wanted when the time came to swap hers over.
the hardest part to get is the cable style pedal, although im sure lokar (or similar) has something that will work...
For the lokar setup I ended up having to make a bracket out of angle iron to attach the alignment collars for the throttle and kickdown cables to the intake...the cable kickdown of the lokar is pretty awesome as well, def. worth the extra expense(to me at least)... the old solid linkage is a pretty ingenious setup (something very similar on my '83 MB turbodiesel...id like to swap that to cable someday too, tho..) but the cable is far easier to fine tune once you get it setup. the lokar setup on my sisters car is at the end of this youtube video...

Did a little fixing, and came up with this: (female shank is a little too short so pedal won't touch floor at full throttle and all the throttle stop is at the carb. I'm thinking of getting a coupler and add a stud to basicly lengthen the pedal rod.
