Hey guys,

I'm getting ready to switch my remanned squareback alternator for a nippodenso. I'm pretty sure I have the wiring down but what is getting me is the mounting. I have a universal slider bracket and I have a basic understanding of how the mounting should work but I just can't envision it. Has anyone done this swap and does and can anyone post pictures of the finished products. As a very visually person, it's hard for me to take the leap without knowing 100% what the finished product should look like. Any and all help is appreciated.

First, no wiring changes are required when switching to the Denso alternator. Just change the "slip on" connectors on the wires to "eyelet" connectors, for the small field wires.
I don't know about the later slant six alternator "stamped steel" mount. I have the earlier cast mount, on my cars. With that mount, just remove about a 1/4 of an inch from the front of the casting, so the alternator will fit down over the mount. Then bolt everything up. I would think the early cast bracket could be used on the later engines.

How did you remove the material off the front of the mount?
Milling it off or grinding it down? or ?????
Does the belt run true?
or will it pop off at 90 mph?

On the wiring, SL6 Dan said you have to run two 10 gauge wires fused on each end to the battery and alternator in a wire conduit. So that is what I did to save the bulkhead wires and amp meter from melting when a 120 amp blast hits from the battery going low.

Cut it off with a hack saw, and dressed it with a file.
It has stayed on my engine at 6500 rpm

You are correct, about upgrading the wireing. I was thinking about not needing to change the regulator circuit.

On the later stamped steel mounts, I just cut the spacer off and ground it down to slide over the bolt. Works fine, no belt jumping.

Hey Ted,
When do you plan to do your swap? If your planning on doing it soon, I think I'll just sit on my parts until you can publish those pictures. Being the only car I have available, I can't exactly have it down for more than a day. Gotta get to work :)

Thanks for all the information Charlie.

Thanks for all the help,
Aspen76

I'd definitely be up for a road trip. Been meaning to drive up to see you for awhile. To give my car a "clean bill of health" as I think someone put it a few months back. Gotta get my speedometer fixed first though, don't feel comfortable driving on the highway with knowing my speed. With the holidays reigning in, doesn't look like it'd be able to for 3 or 4 weeks. Think I would be able to swing up on a weekend around then?

Would you be able to help me plug my HEI set up together? I've got all the parts together for that (except magnecor wires, gives me time to get them as well), just waiting until I change my alternator.

Thanks for the offer Charrlie,
-Aspen76

Let me know when you want to come up. Try to give me about a week notice, to make sure we are both good with the date.
