I am unsure of what I am missing as far as a choke goes on my car. I have a 74 Dodge Dart Swinger with a 225 Slant Six, Holley single brl with a divorced choke. I am unsure of what should be controlling the choke as it stays completely open and will not allow the car to start. If you can ever get it to start the vacuum kicks in but never moves the choke I am unsure if something is missing like say a choke thermostat so if anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated. I bought this car with multiple problems and missing parts I have since replaced bent rods and got her all put together just having choke problems as I replaced the choke with one from rockauto.

I suspect you are missing the choke thermostat. Can you post a picture of your carb on the choke side?

That is a Holley 1945 carb and stock choke...I ran that set up for a quite awhile on my 74.

Will it close if you manually close it by hand?
If so, the choke pull off may need adjustment.

Yep I am for sure missing choke thermostat but I have found one and ordered. Liked the photos she look great. Did you remove rag top? looks like it from the photo as I was thinking of doing the same since my top is cracked and I am sure there is some rust under there as it is the original.

Yes, it was source of many problem leaks around the rear window and rain gutter.

There is no choke thermostat....... if your talking about the wire going to the choke....it gets power from a blue ignition wire.
I cut mine off and do not use it. That will not make the choke engage. It is to make it disengage quicker by heating the small element next to the choke coil. Take a look at my pictures of the carb/choke again and you will see the wire cut off. In fact, I threw a lot of the pollution control spaghetti away and only kept the essential pieces.

I adjusted mine internally with a large screw driver adjusting the shaft so it pulls off fairly quick in about a mile from the house it is wide open.

When you pump the gas once the choke should snap shut.......or nearly. There is a measurement in the pdf. I think mine is nearly closed but you can slide a small 1/8th drill between the choke plate and opening. You should adjust the choke so it will close cold, before start up. Then set the opening, and choke pull off per the pdf instructions.

yeah the choke thermostat is gone they had rigged up a choke cable that in no way worked. I will try and get a picture of my carb posted today since it is now daylight out. like I said the car came in pieces but I am slowly getting her together and if I get tuned and running smoothly I will move on to paint and interior. I am wondering also with the head liner has anyone just simply took the old hard board one out and simply covered it in fabric. Just looking at ideas and also wanting to do as much as I can myself.

I second this to the stock choke.
I have one on my truck and love it lot easier to adjust.
Make sure you know what carb you have when you call them.

It is designed for the 1945 Holley.
I use one and it is very adjustable and works great!
