Long story short:

New clutch kit
New air filter
Oil filter
And engine swapped
Lash set
Rebuilt Z-bar (what a diff there)
And small odds n ends
So far so good, idles smooth and runs fine. Have to figure out how to block the air injection port on the head. And swap to the metal PCV then good to go.

in lieu of a factory cap,, you could tap the hole and thread in a pipe plug.

have you been able to confirm if the cam / compression was upgraded?

I made a plate for the hole and used some metal epoxy then bolted it on, works good now w no leaks. Funny thing is my truck had a bracket for the pipe to the head and the hole w the bolt still there but no leaking from the hole itself. Then the new one did but no big deal sealing it.

As far as compression goes I started to do a test but stopped bc I didn't even have the lash set. 1-150, 2-135, 3-130, stopped. I set the lash at 10/20 being unknown cam. Still haven't played in it given I just hit 100 miles. At 500 I'm going to change oil again and do a compression check the. Shouldn't take but a week to do 500.

The cam could e worked but no degree wheel. I have a dial indicator though so I may make one and see how it works out. I do have a scrap sheet of galv from duct class that's about 16-18" diameter so that's a start.

Runs smooth and event less so far which is good. Had the hardest time w lining it up to get back in but I got it.

I see you beat me to the two 1 bbl intakes from covalt, I was looking to modify one into a holley plate to run a 2300 and no adapter. I may drive up to Wayne's this weekend for a visit and have him look around the engine bay as well in case I missed something. That will make my 500 miles quick.

I'll keep you guys posted, thanks again for the lead.

Sunday works.

Couple add ins here:
Believe it has a diff thermostat than my old one. I think I was running a 180 and this one runs hotter so maybe a 190-195. I changed temp sending units to my old one to verify it was the sensor. Laying in bed so no book but autozone shows OE temp of 195. I'll keep it for the winter I guess.

Oil pressure is good. Before installing I took a small thin washer and shimmed the spring, likes to run 55psi and stays there. The oiling to the lifters is checking out fine. When I done the lash there was oil but not the mess that most speak of. Then again could have been the 400ish rpm I was at.

Initial timing is 12* w no hint of pinging. Most say go w 10 but the tag says 12 so I go there.

Changed to my metal PCV and smoothed out the idle a hair, got rid of that damn whistle of the plastic one.

Idles beautiful at 700, steady 14.5 afr. Doesn't bounce all over, the old one would swing .4 both directions. Cruise at 11-12 vacuum and 13.4 afr so I'll drop my metering rods a hair and see if that brings it in more. The wideband makes things so much easier.

The Z bar has made a world of diff. Not only ending a constant beating noise on the cab but the pedal is so much easier now. It's like night and day clutch pedal.

Made some custom door handles in welding last week. Still need to paint them but I been testing my side. So far it's great, it's .180 wall DOM tube and angle iron from a scrap box in welding. There may be things that will break or fall off but I like to think the handles will be around for a while.

That's all I can think of this early, I'll post more when I think of it. Try to get pictures up sooner or later.

✌️

Well turns out boredom struck again so now I'm the new owner of one Clifford intake w water heat. damn boredom and eBay seems to cost me money. Guess I'll track a set of headers just in case. Have plans to turbo so the intake will help but headers may not. Just a bandaid till later I guess.

I thought I was having a Twilight Zone event. I am also SSG Pohlman and have an 84 Dodge pickup. I had to wonder what the heck was going on when I saw the posting title, "SSGPohlman 84 D150". My 84 is quite different, a D100 short box, 400, auto, 3.23 S/G.

So then your name is Micah Pohlman? And you have an 84 truck? That's scary. Add to your profile so we all know where you're at and to your signature so we know what you got going on.

Even though it's a holiday, I treated Ol Blue to some needed attn.
Oil changed
Reset valve lash
Retorqued the head, 13 wasn't even really that tight
Drained oil/air can. Mostly water and moisture from engine.
Added 63.5" alt belt to move alt away from engine.
Checked antifreeze, looks like I'm good to -20
Blocked fresh air vent in heater box so I can get hot air now instead of warm.
Added factory PC to super6 intake for spring to attach instead of hooking it to the oil dipstick tube.
Added ground cable from batt to engine block.

Still to do:
Clean up the mess of wires I have and reloom.
Thinking of moving VR from firewall to fender by the Alt
Redo HEI and run power feed from ALT
Change to Ecore coil.
And more as I find it.

Pretty sweet truck dude! How big of a difference was the Super Six? I'm jealous of your 833 4-spd!

The super is nice, good and punchy down low w the 833 and 3:55 rear. Was better w the holley 350 but ya gotta use the adapter that I'm not a fan of but still good. W the bbd it noses over about 36-3800 and holley is about 4k. Find a nice super setup and do a self port job, get new bolts and get the front planed so it don't leak. The Mr gasket 1937 is what you need to adapt a holley, but use it to grind off the shelf. Then good to go. You'll like it trust me. Keep us posted of the changes in your build thread.

Had a chance to hit the local yard for a few pcs. Managed a v8 904 lock up that was said to have no reverse and a few front gears. Got it w vss, 3 pin switch, a single idk wire, converter, and mount for the frame. Also snagged a nippo denso alt, a headliner that I'll have to change the color and finally a DELAY WIPER SWITCH!! The already snagged the wiper motor though :(. All for $90.

So moved the 904 to the shed w the other two until I get time to tear them apart and make one. Then pulled Charlie S 170 from the bed and rebagged it to set in the garage. All in all not a bad day.
