Can anyone identify this distributor?

My '72 /6 225 is running like a top with the pertronix II in the distributor. However, I have been thinking about collecting the necessary parts to switch to mopar electric ignition if my pertronix ever fails. I been looking at "parting out this car" ads on this and forabodesonly to see if I can gather the necessary parts inexpensively (since I'm in no hurry). Will any /6 '73+ distributor work?

Can someone tell me what I should be looking for in pictures that sellers provide? Would the one in the picture work?

Yes, I can identify it as an EI distributor with vacc advance...but, you are missing a lot of information.

Any 1973-1980 Distributor will work in a conversion to EI, there are some distributors that are better than others (it would be preferred to get a 1976-1980 distributor for a car so you can run more initial, the super six version would be best all around)....

If it's an OEM distributor you can ask the seller if it has a metal tag attached to one of the screws and what the number is on it (mopar part number). You can also ask what the stamp on the vac. adv. arm is and if original it will ball park the version it might be.

If it's a reman that body will be pot metal iron instead of aluminum, and you will have to take apart to determine what you got for a governor and springs...

I've handled so many of these things I can roll the gear around to see the governor slot through the window in the pickup plate and know whether I got a late short slot governor or a 1973-1975 long slot version.

Make sure to look for splits in the wire coating at the plug where the wire passes through the body, if cracked you will need a new pickup so make sure to figure that in the price if they are "proud" of it.

So the mopar part number was 3874714, which I learned from an earlier post by D.Idiot was 1976-1977 distributor, apparently second to the super six distributors in desirability. Wires are reportedly in good shape. I paid $30 including shipping. Hopefully, that is a fair price.

Heck the pickup replacement is about 22-25 bucks at parts stores.So you did well for a factory unit for 30 bucks.
