figured now is as good a time as any to start my writeup. ive got most of the parts i need and most of the know how. my goal is to get into the 13's on a budget and still be streetable. my car is a 66 valiant 225, hyperpac, shortie headers, comp 264s cam, stock compression + felpro head gasket, 3spd column shift, 8 1/4 sure-grip 3.21, new rear springs & shocks, disc brakes, bbp, new bake lines all around. for now ill start with my parts list and prices. (keep in mind im a cheap bastard and have no problem waiting to find something at a good price) the build will come later when i get the gumption to throw it all together. and the temperature comes above freezing for a while.

holley 650 double pumper $50
rebuild kit for carb $35
nitrophyl floats $12
spectre 9849 carb hat $65
aem uego wideband o2 sensor and gauge $170
ebay/china t3/t4 turbo kit w/ oil line, bov, wastegate, heat shield and exhaust flange $189
ebay 31x11x3.5 bar & plate front mount intercooler $98
ebay 3" intercooler piping $109
2.25 j pipe $35
2.5"-3" exhaust adapter $7
hyperpac, traded for a poly 318 4bbl intake
stock exhaust manifold hogged out, free
oil return pipe, scavenged from a dsm turbo i had
i already had a boost/vac gauge
already have various oil fittings and hardware.
probably gonna run 3" flex piping when i get it all together for my exhaust from the turbo. its cheap and easy. two things i like.
still need to get carb to carb hat gasket Fel Pro 2104 $20 (thank you Joshua Skinner), bov flange pipe $7, a couple silicone couplers $20, standard slant exhaust flange (haven't sourced this yet looking for a good think one. the ones i found were 5/16. wanna go bigger because of the extra heat it will have to deal with). also throwing around the idea of ceramic coating my exhaust manifold, quoted at $60. not sure if im going to or when but am thinking about it.
tack on another $100 for random fittings, couplings, clamps, bov charge pipe.....
so far that brings the total to $917 not including the ceramic coating. ive been gathering these parts for about a year now so its not that bad. im sure my total will go up because i have over looked something so ill adjust as stuff comes up.

I am in the dark about that turbo mount/exhaust flange setup. Can you explain that to me please?

gonna run a j-pipe. normal exhaust flange to the exhaust manifold. a 180* bent pipe to the turbo flange. i will setup some kind of bracketry to support the weight of the turbo.

Only problem I can foresee is that the motor may put out an amount of torque that the clutch is not comfortable with. Lots of ways around that problem... Good luck, and keep us posted!

I'm thinking that if the clutch holds then the A903 goes.

The 650 is also going to be really tough to make work well on the street. I'd use an Edelbrock 500 with Thermoquad floats grafted to the original float arms. I'm curious to know what you're doing for fuel delivery and ignition.

yea i dont have much faith in the 3spd. it should last long enough for me to find a 4spd to replace it.

for fuel im going to boost reference the the stock pump. people have used them for more than i plan to so it should work well. ill keep a spare in the trunk just in case though.

for the ignition i have the hei conversion and am going to just run it first and see if i need to do anything. from there ill lock out the advance as i need to.

the 650 is on the larger side but my car will see more track time then street time. so ill get it as close as i can and make due. gonna keep my eyes open for something smaller but they dont come up like they used to.

finally got a break in the weather. started my teardown today. got the grill and associated supports out of the way and sat my intercooler in there to find i went a little to big. no big deal i planned on some cutting to make it work.

you can see the two dark lines on the filler panel. that i were im going to have to cut to drop the intercooler down so i can retain my hood latch.

more to come soon. got a couple more warm days before it gets cold again. gonna see what i can get done.

got it in and mounted today. did a little more cutting then i wanted to but there is still alot to come.

wound up loosing my hood latch mechanism. gotta figure something out for that. might just run hood pins. when i was done i threw a couple bolts in my grille and sat it back on there. you can see it sticking out at the bottom. gonna take alot of trimming to get it to seat right.

been tinkering with it for the last couple days. got the radiator support cut out for the piping, the grill tweeked to clear the intercooler and the intercooler in its final resting position.

i cut the stock post and nuts off of the grill. they wouldnt come loose and they were hitting the intercooler. at least now i can take them apart when i want to and it gave me a little wiggle room.

final fit. im happy with the end result. i may cut the recess for the license plate down the sides and bend it in to ram some air up into my radiator. gotta get it on the road first and see if i need to.

tomorrow with any luck ill start tackling the fun part of actually piping the turbo and getting this thing ready to smoke the tires. and for the record my grill was already messed up on the passenger side.
