is there anywhere else on the outside of the block to get oil pressure from beside where the sending unit goes in the pump?

What are you trying to oil?

You can use oil filter adapters that screw on to where the oil filter would go - then you would have 2 NPT ports you can do whatever with. If the engine is out of the car you can drill and tap the pad on the main oil galley.

trying to get an oil feed for my turbo. i coulda swore there was a plug on the side of the block somewhere that tapped into the oil galley.

Look for the pad near the rear of the main oil galley.

so looking at the picture and seeing the tap im assuming i would need to drill and tap it? i gotta look at my motor tomorrow in the light. pretty sure i have a plug down there for something.

Most of the 68 and newer SL6 engines already have this hole drilled & tapped.

that could be what i recall seeing then. my motor has the port on the back of the head for an exhaust tube or something like that so im pretty sure its newer then 68. thank you.

it doesnt look like the one in your pic so i just want to verify this is an oil passage. looks a little high up. thinking its for coolant but i dont know why it would be there.

Your picture is of the block coolant drain plug. It's there because with the engine leaning back that's one of the lowest points.

Doc's pic is the one I was talking about. Neat, I didn't know some came tapped from the factory. I never seen one like that stock. It's a little further back and lower then the coolant drain.

That plug is a block water drain. Why not just put a "T" at the outlet of the oil filter, where the gauge sender goes, and run a 1/4 inch line from there to the turbo? That's how I have mine.

im probably gonna wind up doing that. just exploring all my options. the fittings are driving me crazy.

It is just to the left and below the coolant drain plug you took a picture of.
I have seen more 60's engines this way, and many truck blocks have either a sensor or a plug in that hole. Sometime about 1973-1974-ish, I notice none of the blocks have this pad any more...I have drilled and threaded the galley on my 1976 blocks for an oil gauge sensor, since the newer oil pump castings aren't straight enough to allow a T to fit correctly. If using a late block, use caution as there isn't a lot of meat here and one wrong move or stripped threads will mean trashed galley without a plug to allow oil up to the head any more....

i looked today. its not there. im not going to drill it. ill just find the fittings i need to come off of the oil pump.
