Hey Guys,

I have read up a lot on the pcv additions to the Offy covers and was just wondering if either of these 2 options could be a solution other than putting another hole in the cover for a pcv.

1. A Mr. Gasket 2063 push on breather cap with pcv. My thoughts are that this is a breather cap and pcv in one....

2. My preferred option is a Billet Specialities pcv breather cap. I think its the same thing but looks a lot nicer. Issue is fitting it, I think I'd have to remove the filler tube from the cover and try to find a 1.5 inch - grommet.


Anybody done anything like this with their offy cover or is the addition of a pcv hole and baffles the only/best option?

This is the one. Going in a 66 Australian VC Valiant wagon.

Baffles are your friend! Otherwise you will have a mess on your hands, on your valvecover, on the side of your engine and on your driveway.

I drilled a hole in the top of the Offy cover and put a grommet in it. It took 10 minutes. You can buy the grommet for the PCV first to get your drill bit size.

Thanks for the inputs. Cover is away getting baffles welded in and a hole cut for a pcv. Going to run a breather cap in the front and a pcv breather cap in the new hole in the rear. I think this should be a good setup.

For my 65 I prefer the period correct look with the double stovepipe.

Hey I have a 65 also.
Is there anywhere on this plant to get a stock style metal PCV valve like you show in your photo or do they not go bad and I should just use the one I have?

Hi Dave - I've got 3 or 4 brand new metal ones that I bought on eBay.
Hope this helps.

Edit: I believe they can be cleaned and reused

So the breather and pcv breather have been ordered. Billet specialities ones are on their way. Baffles are being done as we speak and while the cover is away at a guys welding shop I am going to get his paint guy to paint inside the fins black. Can't wait.

The engine is all wired up in a run in stand now and just waiting for the starter motor before firing it up for the first time.

Running an edelbrock thunder series 500 and wondering if anyone has had any experience with them? I'm hoping to get it pretty well tuned before putting it in the car.

First, Ridehard, your engine looks awesome with that chrome and polish!!!

I too went with dual stovepipe (see link to pic below)

It was a bit pricey, as I had a machinist weld in the stove pipe and powder coat the cover. But, I only had a baffle put in the rear (new) stove pipe. On the front there is none, and due to the airflow pattern, there is no oil issue up front, clean and oil free always.

But as one member mentioned you could simply drill a hole, use a grommet and an off the shelf breather with a screen and filter element. There's a link to this set up on the boards, very economical and works fine apparently.

Cover is back with baffles installed and provisions for the breather and pcv. Might have to get creative with fitting the pcv as the baffle is very close. We wanted as much clearance for the rockers and we now have plenty.

Waiting for breathers to arrive then ready to fire it up.

You could go for a nice loking aluminum catch tank, and skip the pcv valve in the breather cover. Just use any breather that looks good - there are plenty chromed examples to choose from, and place the pcv valve in the catch tank instead. See this thread for suggestions:

BTW: I don't intend to discourage you, but you may have been too creative when it comes to baffles, remember that you have to use the front opening for oil filling as well. :?
