Takin a break from my personal build to Prototype a few sheetmetal intake designs of mine with mr.andrew howard as my R/D guy...figured i share...the long ram dubbed "the money maker" is a 10-12" tappered runner for a single 4bbl. The short/high ram dubbed"double trouble" will be configued for dual 2300 holleys as well as a large plenum single 4bbl..gonna see if we can beat his current, and imo, poorly designed clifford. Design was aided by some solid works flow simulations.

Thanks!.. also building a nice valve cover in the same fashion for him ..ill post pics as it comes together...

This was my first slant intake i did...for my own build..whichimay or may not run yet...im undecided. These slants sure are fun to goof with though..also have some header and dutra style dual exhaust manifolds in the works soon as well..problem is its 112* & 50% humidity in my lil shop...uhggg.

40% taper on the long ram..as seen by the plenum..they are roughly the size of 360 intake port..the short ram is geared towards forced induction and all out naturally aspirated mills with nearly 85% taper..which is irrelevant with boost imo. Laminar flow paths and.reducing pumping losses were of main priorety. Mix nolonger has to slam into the floor and get pulled apart in a 180* plane..mix now has to vary direction very minimally. Runners will be fully welded at the plenum and radiused accordingly.

Ive got several efi designs in mind as well...id price these @ 400 or so..about. the same as a new complete clifford i guess..and well under what marcella or hogans would want for something similar..

I like the looks of the 2-2bbl intake. Interesting for sure.

The Clifford is not as bad as you think.

My problem with the spread out runners in a oem or clifford is the shear amount of turbulance within the plenum in flow simulations i have witnessed..very unorganized. In my design..flow is all traveling in mostly one direction with far less variance in the air/fuel mass direction of travel...i also think the shallow plenum with a down draft carb is a joke..airand especially fuel tend to shear to the outside..or bottom of the intake in this case..of a bend or change in direction..thus leaving a huge dead flow spot that chokes off the runners potential in reguards to filling and velocity. The mix is forced down and takes half the length of the #3/4 runners to regain full filling of the runner..it is very compromised..That huge deadspace-or exagerated "boundary layer" also chokes out the flow path benieth the carb reducing carb signal and flow from whichever venturies that reside over that terrible shortside turn..my flowpaths arevery generous in comparrison and work to promote full runner filling with minimal disruption to the port roof flow as thats the fast part of the intake port within the cylinder head...following me so far??!!!..ill have hard data(quatermile times and trap speeds) to prove my work in the following weeks..im willing to bet his car picks up 3 tenths and several mph over the cliffor eith spacer...we shall see.

How about a top plate for the tall manifold to mount a blower? I have an Eaton M112 from a Jag that I would like to put to good use. Might have to buy a pickup and put a hood scoop on it, but I'm completely fine with the idea. Now if I could just find a good 5 speed to replace a NP435.

In short..the sharp edge under the carb that represents the plenum roof to runner transition is very poor. Im optimizing the flow path from plenum to runner. I feel that the hyperpack was and still is the best intake for the slant six previously available..due to the narrow spread of the intake runners..not to mention..in the clifford or offy.... other runners on the intake stroke stealing a "stacked sonic charge" pulse from an adjacent runner while its valve is closed...runner length is probably the only reason the clifford wins out in radical competition engines...im sure a short runner hyperpack would kill a clifford in back to back testing.

I could easily adapt a blower plenum for a side mounted eaton charger to the intake runners i have pictured above..anything is possible..i have the sketch drawings already..runner length is far less critical in a positive displacement sc application...it could be much more compact than these designs.

Is there an advantage to having the runner length equal? That could be done by making the center ones rise and fall between the TB or carb and intake port.

The runner length actually only varys from 10" to 11.5"...i dont think itd matter much. Look at the old crower intakes for v8s...they were mechanically injected manifolds but the stacks were all different lengths and those things had huge success in can am racing.
