Thank you, I will do that first thing tomorrow. I honestly hope it is original, and a 225. I will post the numbers when I find them!

No worries, we can't all know everything. I looked it up to double check before I even posted the reply. The next step to learning is remembering and I'm not so good at the second step anymore.

I know the feeling. I just turned 50.

Think nothing of it. Once you hit sixty, ah, umm... crap, I forgot what I was going to say.

I tried so hard to look behind the alternator. I couldn't see anything. It's very hard to see behind it, maybe I should remove it?
I did find numbers on the other side of the block. I don't know if that helps, and I also took a photo of the the by pass hose between the water pump and head. Maybe that will help? If not, tomorrow, I can remove the alternator, and see if I can find numbers. Here's the photos.

long bypass hose looks like a 225..

I would doubt that the 170 would be based much in a big car like an b, c,body or truck / van.

You need to look at the top edge of the block just below the #1 spark plug, not the side of the block. There should be numbers stamped where the head meets the block (the block will stick out a little bit about 1/4 inch).

Okay, I got anxious and went and hit it with brake clean. I seen the lip you meant. I was looking at the block, my bad!
The numbers are:
A 225 7 12
Please give me good news. I hope its original and the 145hp version.

All 225's make about the same power. What you are mistaking for less powerful engine starting around 1972 is just the way engine output was calculated as dictated by, I think, can't recall exactly, it was American Society of Engineers; ASE. This revised method became the new standard which American engine output has been measured until recently; I believe the formula was tweaked again. (someone with clearer head may chime in on this... I hope)

Pre 72 (or so) output was measured with just engine and maybe water pump, post 72 or so accessory losses were factored into calculations. Such as power steering alternator etc. those devices take energy to turn which subtracts from that 145 HP you are seeing listed as stock output.

Factor in the drive train and these engines in stock tune they only make about 95 hp. at the rear wheels.

If you want a true 145 hp, and stock torque number as listed in the old literature at the rear wheels, one needs to make some changes to compression, cam, carburetor, head breathing, and exhaust size.

Hi Greg! How have you been?
Yes, it is a 225. I seen the number on the starter side of the block.
And then just seen this:
The 2 most common RGFC blocks have the casting numbers 2463430 (60 – 67 forged crank "early" with 3 freeze plugs & red paint)
Someone must have painted it blue over the years I guess.
Although my car is a 1965, I seen my numbers 2463430 come up as a 1966. I dunno.
Also found, 2463430 225 1960-1967 (RG-series).
I don't know what RG series is?
I can't find the other number online.
The one on the block behind the alternator. The number A 225 7 12

Does that above number mean anything?
Hope your doing well. Stop by an see my car when you get time, before you start back to work!.
